Gruppe M Replica vs Carbonio Quest

Hi,

I've got a 330ci with a Gruppe m rep which ive had for a few yrs.

Its pushing out 250bhp in total (thats with a eisemann full system with mid cats deleted) and thats without a remap so i think im gona get a remap done.

Question i have is, ive been told the cai i have which is the gruppe m replica one is a bit crap and that if i replace it with the Carbonio one which sits down in the front bumper in front of the brake duct will give me better gains cause there will be more cold air being taken in. The Carbonio one is £200+. Is there really going to be that much difference in added bhp compared to the gruppe m rep? Is it worth doing the change?

hi mate even with the aded 5bhp with the new intake (I doubt it) are you really going to really feel the difference in real world driving?

if you want a more compressed direct feed of cold air why not DIY a hose connecting it from the lower brake duct hole and feed it direct into the carbon shield. I normally also keep the panel air feed from the oem airbox there to help gather more air into the shield

Ye ive still got the oem air feed on there directing air to the filter.

I was told by Phil that the Carbonio one is better because where the sheild on the gruppe m doesnt cover the entire cone i.e. at the bit towards the bottom, it is suckign in hot air as its not covered liek the top part of the intake.

If its only gona be a 5bhp diff then im nto gonna bother cause spendign 200+ for that isnt worth it.

Maybe liek you say, ill try frabricate some ducting or sumthing. For now ill prob jsut stick witht he gruppe m then and go for the remap.

The carbonio will give approx 5bhp over stock but with the intake you have on the car you are losing about 5-10bhp so after fitting the Carbonio intake it will feel like you have an extra 10-15bhp (altho in real world terms you would just have the 5bhp you should of got over stock before fitting the gruppe m rep)

ah, i see.

So if i leave the induction kit as is and go for remap, ive been told by one of your collegues phil that i can expect 12-15bhp more? i.e. 262-265 in total, correct?

Also, from the looks of price and the gain I would get, rather than swapping my induction kit, id save 100 odd quid and gain another 10bhp by install the Evo sport power pullies given the figures on your website.

thats a lot of bhp with the mods u have dude have u got a bench mark already i..e what you car is pushing out ? is the 250bhp something you think thecar should be pushing out or it is pushing out? i know the standard 330 pushs 231 as standard I have yet to see one push that out with no mods.

My 330 vert had very similar mods to yours plus the power pullyes and a map and it pushed out 247 when i had it RR around 3 years ago

my car is putting out 250bhp currently. But thats at the fly wheel i think rather than actually at the wheels. I went to a ca dyno day earleir in the yr and it produced this figure. I was told that if i get a remap i could get another 12-15bhp. Then reading about the power pullies that says on ca website it adds 12-15bhp. so i could get the figure to 274-277 if i do the map and powerpullies based on the figures ive been told or someones telling me porkies. :eek:

With the remap it will be on a dyno so i will be able to see if the figure i was quoted actually is produced or not.

Regarding that Carbonio one how easy fit is it? Looking at the pics on the CA site and where its located is the bumper have to be taken off or the wheel?

GruppeM rep still sounds the best IMO.

I had a Dinan air intake (similar to the Carbonio) on my 330 many years ago. It worked but come winter time, the filter clogged up with gunk as it is a lot more exposed than that of the GruppeM rep. Also, I remember having to take a detour round a flooded road in attempt to prevent water ingestion into the engine! CAI is good for the dry countries but with the winter approaching in the UK, might not be a good idea.

IMO, air induction kit for a mildly tuned road going car is put on purely for the noise it makes. If you want to feel a big difference in drivability, try a shorter rear diff (http://forum.evotechnik.net/showthread.php?t=3895&highlight=rear+diff) :cool:

Doesn't work that way. You can't simply add on the claimed horsepower increase sequentially.

when i fotted mine to the mrs golf i took the bumper off, however on the 330 it may just be acase of removing the inner arch. the inner arch comes in 2 pieces so you just have to remove the lower part by the brake ducts buddy

I ran with one of these for ages. You dont need to take bumper off to fit, just release part of the arch lining.What is a pain is that you have to relocate your ballast if youve got Xenons. I also re-routed the brake duct, to feed cold air to it as well.
IMO it gives a more linear improvement over the Gruppe M, which seemed to lose power at lower Revs. But it does accumulate crap very quickly and doesnt sound as good as the Gruppe M. (oh yeah and ditto on watching out for big puddles) ;)

I believe all the performance mods give various effects to each individual cars depending on car age engine condition country weather condition and driving style etc...

Hmmm.......makes sense having the filter there for the performance but I think puddles etc. would put me off buying one, think I'll stick with my Gruppe M rep for now.
