Hi All,
I have a PP and will be getting a new car soon and was wondering what the best way to do it is?
Can I ask the seller not to send the log book off (when I buy) and then just take both sets of documents in and get the plate swapped over?
or do I need to wait for the v5 to come back after the name change?
I only have a 30 day grace before my insurance will charge me for the swap so time will be a factor.
Thanks in advance.

Let the dealer deal with it as they can do the swap over for you quicker. The insurance company dont usually charge for plate change unless you're talking about the car change of course.

thanks for the reply.
It's a private sale, and it is going from my old car to the new.

If the old owner of the car you are buying gives you the V5 as a whole document then you will be able to swap it over at your nearest dvla office if you had your pp on retention cert. Otherwise its a waiting game I'm afraid.

If I go down to my pocal office with my PP and V5 can I get my plate on the same day?

You get the plate changed over by your self. Do not let go off the plate and give your log book to some else. As you may see what I saw and the guy that took it couldnt be bothered so he changed the log book and told me to bugger off. Only if he wasnt in Glasgow
