Does anybody know if upgrading your leather interior to M3 leather is a straight swap?, i've heard about codes being embedded in the seats to stop the electrics functioning until the codes have been cleared, is this true?

Do you mean you want to put M3 seats and trim in the car or have your seats trimed in M3 leather? can't see BMW would go to all that trouble with codes in seats :)

Checked the part numbers on BMW.OEM and the match up but he said that there comp said it cant be done but didnt see way as the numbers matched up only no one has tryed it
also are the seat runners not different in the m3 to other bmw

Yes, basically I want to fit oem M3 leather in my car, i did it on my last bmw but the seats were compete with runners. I'm pretty much sure it's the same on the e46.

I'm questioning the fact that will the car know it has m3 seats fitted?

Can't see the seats being coded myself, what's the point?

Should be a straight swap. Just make sure you disconnect your battery as there will be an error logged with the seatbelt pre-tensioners, which in turn will screw with the airbags. I've looked into this and I know a few people have done this on e46fanatics with no issues
