387 members at probably about £3000 each would cover bids up to £1,161,000 then you'd get use of it for just under a day a year?

Just insurance, running costs, servicing to worry about.

On the insurance front the other day saw a thing on TV about a way around car insurance for more expensive cars - might be good for anyone with an M3 and another car.

Get insured on the cheap car (people were doing this on old fiestas) the pay the little excess that says you can drive any car - hey presto - Ferrari Enzo insurance for the cost of ford insurance.

hmm but the expensive car must be registered under someone else's name and also he needs to get that car insured/MOT to be able to get road tax..so how does thing actually work I don't know...

Two_Stripes,
Does not work that way unfortunately as teddy said the car must be insured by someone other than yourself for it to work, plus it's only third party you get when driving someone else car on your insurance.

Cheers

Was on TV last week to highlight a loophole in insurance and the innsurers acknowledged it.

Just checked my insurance and it states I can drive anyone elses car and it will be insured under my insurance not theirs at the same level of cover that I pay for on mine provided they give permission.

Another way to do it is to insure a woman on your insurance as certain insurers actually reduce cost for an additional person (try asking what premium would be with mother on the policy)

I wonder how much the annual premium will be for insuring an Enzo, nevermind trying to get a female driver!

if you work it out right then it could be worth a try. Just before the insurance on the expensive car runs out, quickly get one year MOT and Tax. Then after the insurance runs out on the expensive car you or the owner of that car simply don't renew it for another year and you can use your own insurance on a cheaper car to drive the expensive car without paying one year insurance on it lol [read Or am I being silly?

Here you go found article on the insurance thing in Auto Express from the New Car awards issue last month.

They asked several insurers if they would do the any driver policy for a 25 year old based on the main car being a 1.4 Fiesta and Admiral, Churchill, Direct line, esure.com and Norwich union were quoted for their prices and they all did any other car policy, they then phoned for same person to drive a Ferrari 355, only Churchill an Direct Line would quote (both £3k+).

Apparently this causes a problem for automatic number plate recognition cameras which automatically check against insurance databases as the car shows up as not insured when in fact it's being driven on another policy.

Article says the DoT intend to do something about this 'drive any car' clause to only apply to ars which are already insured when the Road Traffic bill goes through parliament later this year.

So looks like you can do this scam even on a car which is not insured specifically at all!!!

However the third party cover you might have (I don't as Im under 25) on your policy to drive another car only applies if that car is insured in someone elses name...so all cars need to be insured by someone to be on the road

Nope apparently not according to the article and the Department of Transport (DoT). As I said above the DoT are looking to change the rule so that the drive any other car clause can apply only to cars insured elsewhere but this does not apply at the moment.

Plus, my policy has this clause but doesn't require you to have the car insured with anyone else.
