View Full Version : Traction Control Light
ok guys just had a service done to the car today by local garage... all is sweet (well almost)! What little power my engine wasnt giving me as of late is back :D but the traction control light is permenantly on. Any easy way to figure out whats up without having to diagnose it?... I had a similar problem prior to this where my asc + handbrake + abs lights would stay on permenantly randomly [hmm.
I got it booked in for diagnostics in the morning £45  . They guy also wants to charge me a good £25 each for a few key features (selective unlocking...beep when arm.. auto lock ect..).... not going to happen.
p.s Yes traction control is permenantly disabled and its not just the bulb playing up ect...... i tested by wheel spinning

Shouldn't the local garage that serviced your car be sorting this out?
maybe they've unbplugged something under the bonnet and not plugged it back  , thats happened to me before, look and see if you can see anything dangling in the engine bay, may sound silly but check anyway.
yea thats an idea... they replaced the rear brake pads maybe a wires just slipped out. Thanks dude.
They garage offered but are booked till monday... and im off to manchester over weekend so would prefer some traction control... especially with how i drive my car :p.

Think I recall a mate with a late E36 having the same problem after his brakes had been done and it turned out that the garage had borked an ABS sensor and it was causing the system to disable. Sounds like yours is similar, but hard to tell without having a look. I'd be tempted to tell the garage to either sort it by the weekend or pay the £45 bill - you'll probably find they'll suddenly have room to fit you in.. ;) It's probably only a 5 minute job if it's a loose wire anyway, odds are they'll put it on the ramp and spot it immediately.
And £25 EACH to turn on key features?! You'd probably pay no more than that total at a main dealer for as many feature changes as you want...

Hey dude, you should drop in, im only 20mins away from Manchester.
chaos - thanks i think ima forget doing the diagnosis. Ill call the guy in the morning and cancel. Ill just get it up on a ramp and see whats happening and just go without traction control for the weekend otherwise. I spend enough time without it off as it is .
lee - sounds like a plan

I had probs with my e36, probably a wire on the sensor if they've been mucking about with the brakes.
By autolock do you mean when the car pulls away?
yea thats the one dude [ok.
