View Full Version : Brake Upgrade
ok guys im seriously thinking about possibly doing this. Fas told me id need new calipers and carriers.
That aside anyone got any recommendation on same fairly cheap upgraded disc/pad combo's. Something a little bigger than my stock ones would be cool behind the rims :D. Is there any kits that would come with the calipers and carriers other than major money BBK?
Also is there a difference between coupe and saloon discs fitment wise?

if u don't want BBK, then why not get disc, pads, s/s brake lines combo? Pads and discs will only give little extra but s/s brake lines should give a noticeable difference:)
paul... 330 size discs like that would be perfect but id need to source the calipers + carriers cheap.
mitsu - s/s brake line combo's? How much are those roughly?

mine were all cheap cause I got them on eBay or thru a mate. brembo discs from GSF 50.50, ATE pads 15 from ebay, Goodridge brake lines 15 from eBay.
Afif, speak to Fab direct. I have just sourced a complete set of 330 brakes front/rear and they have one set of fronts left. They charged me £150 + VAT for the front caliper/carriers. They can do discs with a package as well but I didn't want standard discs ;)
thanks guys [ok so there is no difference between coupe/saloon brakes?
Also how much bigger than 328 brakes are 330 ones?
328 brakes are 300mm front and 294mm rear.
330 brakes are 325mm front and 320mm rear :D
Just need to choose which disc/pads/etc to go for.
It's deffo the cheaper and better option, especially if it just for the look behind the rims your after.

I really can't get my head around anybody wanting to upgrade their brakes unless you are ragging your cars on track days on a regular basis [hmm. Surely a decent set of Discs/Pads is more than sufficient even for an enthusistic driver..
Why do any mods to your car????
Answer: Because that is what we do :D .
Also, upgrading your brakes is about show as well as go (so to speak). When you see a motor with 19" rims and tiny lickle brakes, it just looks wrong. The reason for me upgrading is the extra benfit of bigger brakes (slightly better stopping power) and they fill out the rims sooooo much better.

hmmm..would love to see a before and after pic to see the difference. Are you painting your calipers a different colour?
Will do some pics when I actually change them. Planning on keeping the calipers standard or painting them black. Not keen on painting standard calipers different colours as I think it just looks cheap IMHO.

Compare the pics below. 318 brakes and 330 brakes. Both cars have open spoke wheels.

Also, stock M3 brakes and BBKs ;)
But TBH, BBKs transform the driving experience, even on normal road driving. You have so much reserve and the brake pedal feel is 10X better. Plus it's easier to heel-toe as all you need to do is just tap on the brake pedal instead of actaully pressing down on it.
just a thought but if you got the calipers + carriers would M3 brakes fit mine [hmm?
The M3 carriers need to be machined to fit. They aren't direct bolt on replacements, otherwise I would have gone for those :D .
bah... i thought as much but hoped maybe just maybe there was another reason :p....

There really is very little differnce between M3 brakes and 330 brakes, so you far better with the 330 conversion.
