My first BMW was a 1996 E36 328 Sport Coupe - still miss it! Pretty sure a fairly decent one can be picked up for a couple of grand now.

You need to be more specific about which model; you are going for, area to be looking in etc.Having owned a 318 325 328 and an M3 evo saloon they all have different things to look out for

i wont be touching an M3 as insurance would cripple me, it would be from the 316 to a 328, nothing specific as well quite simply its just going to be a run around until my E46 / E90 / E92 turns up lol.

Really depends on budget and what you want from it?
I sold my R Reg 328i Sport in December for £2k which had most of the options and low mileage.
Watch out for nikasil problem in pre 98 328's.
People value e36's far to high but there are bargains about. Personally I would be looking at either a 318 Sport or 328.
George I've got a mate selling a 1.6 cammed ported head, very very tasty 206, which redlines at 7700rpm.. for 2600, but if you want a cheap runaround then I wouldn't pay more than 1400-1600 for the one above :p

You get very touchy very quickly Jamie  ,chill a little.Mega's offer isn't going to be much good to Georges friend because its modded and she has just passed her test ;) .As for the price of yours I reckon down here you would be lucky to see £1200 tops, even then I could pick up one with much less mileage.E36's are fairly cheap to pick up,but if was me I would be looking to pay as little as possible because you clearly dont want it forever, its just a means to an end

Yep thanks for the offer Dave but as mark mentioned, my friend will have a hard time insuring a modded pug as she has just passed.
Jammy German, the spec on your car is about right but I have no Pm from you yet or even the price you are looking for:(
As for the E36, to be honest any of the choices will be good as long as they have been well looked after with a good decent history and are not rust buckets. That would be costly to get them right even though there is an a huge amount of spares you can buy. So any of the 320/323/325/328 are great buys as long as you make a good choice.

gie0320 i will send you a PM in the morning with all the details been a good night out *hic* so i dont want to miss anything ;-)
as for the E36, after a chat tonight i was thinking of just running it around as a daily runner with the E46 / E9x being the weekend / nicer car, the E36 of course might get heavily modified as a weekend / track thing,,,, i was told to slam the bitch and slap in a E46 m3 engine in it :S should be fun

 This thread sounds so familiar, anyway what would be the point in buying a standard E36 then sourcing an M3  ?.I'll do a search later to see where I've seen a simliar thread in the past ;)

it was just a drunken conversation with a few friends.
the E36 would just be a general day to day car, once the new car arrives, the idea was turning this into a track toy as i am keen to get into this.
i am not sure of costs, but putting an m3 engine into an E36 sounds expensive.
I'm looking at this carefully, and _Hunting around for what you should do. Errrrr, I'm not sure. But good luck..
BTW - Sorry for sounding negative about the 206 your selling bro. Was not my intention. Its just, trying to shift my mates car for him... You know how it is.. But good luck obviously!
