View Full Version : Coilovers/Lowering Springs or Brembo BBK???
Well, I plan the last big mod for a while and want to get it done before Gaydon.
My dilemma is, do I drop the car on Eibach lowering springs or Eibach/H&R coilovers, or fit a Brembo 328mm BBK (in black as I like things understated ;) )?
I don't do track days so whichever I do, it will be cosmetic.
Opinions an' suggestions appreciated.

If your not doing trackdays, i would spend the money on some Eibach springs, forget the coilovers and BBK. Then spend your remaining money on other external mods to set it apart from other sport models. You'll have plenty spare as im sure both the brakes and the coilovers will cost over 1k.

I wouldn't go coilovers just for cosmetic. Having do it before, you really have to drive hard to appreciate the performance edge. Cruising around with coils can drive your head in as they are very stiff. The harder you drive, the more compliant they become.
Go for Eibach Sportline springs. The drop is good enough. I would upgrade the shocks at the same time as well as I take you're still on your original shocks. They will save you on labour later down the line (the shocks have to come out anyway). Again I would just get new OEM. Koni adjustables are good but I don't think you need them with just lowering springs upgrade.
BBK is a very cool mod. If you have the funds, go for it! It's really the sort of detail that sets a car off. Subtle, yet very attractive and gives the car a true performance outlook. Are you particularly interested in just Brembo? They are the classiest but also the most expensive. StopTechs are cheaper, so are Teddy's VTTR. You can get the calipers painted in black. Make sure you get them in 330mm.
My old 330 with AP-Racing 6-pot 330mm BBK (behind the same wheels as well!)

Raj, Would deffo just go for Springs, as I too don't beleive in thrashing my car on track days, a set of splitters would just finish her off too mate..
Cheers guys.
Colour coded splitters will be on by the end of the week.
I can be quite an enthusiastic driver hence why i thought about coilovers. I have had coilovers on my last 3 cars and just love the tunability of the height to get it just right. But think I may just go with Eibach pro kit.
As for the BBK, AmD do a Brembo BBK (2 piece caliper as opposed to monobloc), so the price is £800 (far cheaper than the more costly options), but that is in 328mm size.
The other option of course is to get a 330 brake upgrade (if I can source the bits).
Any more responses???

Raj, you have any more info on the BBK? What's the difference, real world, of a two piece vs. monoblock?
To be honest Fas, it's just the strength of them. Monobloc (OE Porsche, etc) are for real punishment and lots of power use. For road use and show 2 piece are fine. Even for track use I would say 2 piece are fine. It's for this reason I am thinking about it. I couldn't justify £1400 - £1500 for brakes.
I'd appreciate any other info on the difference.
Fas, if you are thinking about it, let me know as I might just take your 330 brake upgrade off you instead ;)

my original upgrade has gone as I was thinking of selling the car. Kicking myself now though as I made the decision to keep it for a long time to come. got something in the pipeline which hopefully will work out, if not, then I may speak to AMD about their brembo kit.
Cool. Think I may go with the AmD BBK and a little later the pro kit.

If you go for AMD BBK, can you see if they'll do a deal to supply 2 kits?

Hi mate,
I was so tempted to go for coil-overs when i got mine lowered, i had the money, that was not a problem, but the only reason i wanted coil-overs was to get the sitting just right.
After looking at lowering kits and just lowering springs on there own i thought i'd try the lowering springs (car's only done 40k so shocks should still be fine) if i f**ked up i was gonna just get coil-overs and be done with it!
Went for H&R lowering springs with a 35mm drop front and 10mm drop rear, it now sit's perfectly - and it cost well under £200 all in!!! :D
Springs and shocks will set ya back 2 or 3 times that, maybe more.
The ride is almost the same, it was a bit hard to start with and is now about 5-10% harder - you cant really notice it.
All that money on kits but do ya homework and ya can get it done for next to nothing!!!
I'm gonna post pic's today or tomorrow of the quad exhaust so check out the stance of the car and see what ya think.
Cheers for that. Would appreciate the pics. Think I am gonna get the BBK done first and then see about the suspension. The car has done 60,000 miles now so thought with the coilovers I get the benefit of new shocks as well. The other thing is, that after fitting springs on their own and also coilovers, the tunability of the coilovers to get the car to sit even is a real benefit (although it does cost).
@Fas Will enquire tomorrow as got to speak to Ed anyway (will let you know).
