Got My GTR Today

Well I finally got my paws on my new Storm White Black Edition today from the guys at Westover Nissan. I ordered mine over a year ago but had made my mind up that I was going to get one when the GTR Proto was first shown.

I have been very lucky and got to go to the Silverstone Day Track Day, the Goodwood FOS show and the GTR Launch Westover launch. The experinace has been excellent up until last Friday when I was supposed to go and collect it only to find out that someone at Newcastle had logged the car as being on the transporter but forgot to actually load it. Gerard at Westover was faultless in his efforts to resolve the situation and demanded that Nissan ship it out on Monday and get it here today (earyl enough for Darren the GTR tech to come in whilst on holiday to PDI it for me) how's that for good service!!!1

I collected it this afternoon and then got it home for a good snow foam and dry before it gets detailed at the weekend.

The car is everything I dreamed of and I have been out in it to all evening to show it off to the boys.

I had to go and get him early from school so he did not miss out on the hand over and he even played the "I'm cute card" and got himself an Autoart 1/18 replica.

He loves it, been telling eveyone it has two turbo boosters!!!

I have done 157 miles in it since I picked it up but I gotta get to 300 before I can take it above 3000rpm but I tell it was well worth the wait - talk about dog with two dicks.

Cheers for all the comments guys - the car is awesome and even though I am running it in I have been lucky enough to blast one round Silverstone and I gave the demo one a good thrashing a few weeks ago.

It is chalk and cheese against the 911 - the 911 was a great car and very good fun to drive. It was really nimble and due to its size it felt fast even at 60. It was great for throwing into corners and getting it sideways yet at the same time it had great mechanical grip, a gear box that was so well engineered it was untrue and was very flashy with the turbo wheels and Colbalt paint.

The GTR totally different, it is big - way big and feels very heavy but at the same time it has bags of grip when you are being smooth on the inputs but throw it into a corner with some agression and be prepared for some serious broadside.

The cool thing with the GTR is once it goes into a drift and you trust the car you can just nail it even harder and the car will suck you through the corner and spit you out the otherside like the starship Enterpise when it jumps to warp factor 7, its a great feeling and one I am not sure you experiance with any other car - an Evo will do most of the work for you, the GTR you have to work with, its a real partnership.

The GTR is not just a car it is a complete culture and one that you have to buy into - there is a lot of media hype about the car at the moment but when it all dies down you will be left with a car of legends - I bought a book on the history of the GTR and when you read what has happned to get this version of the GTR to be as good as it is you really do sit up and take notice.

A lot of my pals are like "you going from a Porsche to a Nissan" this car is not for them, my MD who has an R8 and a 430 Spyder is like "can't wait to blast it down the local A roads, I bet its mental", he loves cars for what they can do and the enjoyment they bring. People say the 911 is a drivers car and they are right but I would say the GTR is a petrol heads car - I am guilty as charged.

The 911 was a stop gap until this one turned up and the wait was worth it.
