Hi, im new to the forum here, although i have been browsing for months.
I'm Koomber's partner.
I currently have a 2.0 206cc SE this was my first car, turning 18 in june.
we have both decided to give ourselves a birthday preseant this year :)
so are looking for new cars, i think k00mber is going with an M3 i'm
looking to spend around about 6-7000. was thinking a TT, 225 maybe 52/53 plate..
any thoughts??
ill post a pic of my car, although its not nice as everyone's on here!

Hello! I have a 206 'thing' (Its unhealthy really).
Heres mine: Which I own as well as the E90 BMW.

For 7k, I can't see much beating a 225 TT. You could get a reasonable example E46 Coupé for that but coming from the 206CC, the TT is a much more similar car.. And I guess the style of car you'd prefer. The E46 Coup is quite a masculine car lol, and the TT, well, Isnt :D
Good luck with the purchase, will be a huge upgrade.

Hello and welcome... :)
Nice looking Peug!
Audi TT is a great choice, but if you dont mind another E46 what about a E46 vert???

thanks! well this may sounds silly, but i used to hate how the TT looked, but when you put my age into consideration, i cant find anything as nippy as that with reasonable insurance :( :(
very strange tho, elephant quoted me £1000.00 for the 225 but £2500.00 for the 180
was thinking maybe getting it remapped to 280 (after a good few months of getting used to the 225!)
and it stayed at 1000 insurance..
lets say i've grown to like the TT.. im not really into girly cars but the cc was the best i could get at 17 and the TT best i can get at 18... im sure things will change when i hit 21 :P

@ alym786 we did look at one.... insurance too high :(
Few other suggestions you may or may not have thought of:
'06 Vauxhall Tigra Vert (should be cheap insurance)
Mazda RX8
'04/'05 Toyota Celica
'05/'06 Alfa Romeo GT (2 litre)
'04 (Face lift) E46 316Ci M-Sport
I think the Alfa is lovely...

I might still go for the TT though out of all these

hehe Mega, this is where i become picky! :S
'06 Vauxhall Tigra Vert (should be cheap insurance) too slow... slower than mine now :S
Mazda RX8 heavy on fuel/oil and i really want 4wd...
'04/'05 Toyota Celica... i love my partners love driving it but its the same speed etc as my cc and the t-sport and 190 insurance too high :(
'05/'06 Alfa Romeo GT (2 litre)... mmmm niiice but :S only 165... i do like the looks tho :)
'04 (Face lift) E46 316Ci M-Sport not tooo keen...
You need to make the choice between compromise on power and cost of insurance! Can't have both! :)
I'm only 22, and pay over 2k a year for what I drive at the moment and 2600 total for both my cars. Id have an E46 M3 right now if I could have gotten insurance for it :)
If you can get a 225 insured so cheap for whatever reason then I'd say snap it up immediately
One other thing, consider a diesel. You can then get the car remapped, which is invisible to insurance, and release in some cases 40% more power than standard with no side affects ;)
Just did this to my car. Paying for 2 litre 320d but getting power/torque levels inbetween a 325 and 330

I think the TT is the best choice for now.... like i said when i turn 21 it will be a diff story but for now i have decided not to go above 1600 for insurance.... the TT sits just nicely :P
i did think about a diesel...maybe something to look into before june.
as for power ect.... i obviously dont want to decrease from mine so tigra etc... would be.. anything above 200 would be nice :) again the TT is there ..
i'm rather scared about test driving it... and hating it :S after all the searching i've done and came up with this, ill be stuffed if i hate it :(
You wont hate it. The 225TT is a fantastic car to drive, a real drivers car. And the pace is staggering. A member off here 'Juber' used to have one, and a couple of performance mods done on it too, and by christ, by the time my pug could get to 70, his was at 150. Shocking. Just looks like a hairdressers car :p but your a lass so get away with it.
I'll let someone else answer your topic now lol

Sorry, i don't agree with this. We found one on a van at work through testing specific measure value blocks to see. We told the customer that to continue he would have to pay for a new ECU at his cost. I suggested he contacted the company who did the remap, and they phoned and were less than impreseed and were shocked as he said it was the first time in 7 years that a map had been found.
If an insurance company were suspicious then it can be traced, but in 99.9% of cases they wouldn't. But let's take your car as an example, if you had an accident at a speed that was above the maximum for the standard car then they might look into it. If it was found that it was remapped and you hadn't declared it then your insurance would be null and void and you would be in a fair bit of trouble. Quite a statement to say that they are undetectable and invisible to be honest.
cheers
if you had an accident at a speed that was above the maximum for the standard car then they might look into it.
Thats a very very unlikely situation though ;) The max speed of the car has only increased by about 15mph, its the torque lower down thats the big difference.
If I had an accident at 140mph then I think whether the insurance payout is the least of my worries. More a factor is either whether I live to tell the tale, or whether I escape a prison sentance. As if insurance would pay out regardless of declared modifications in this situation.

Welcome to the forum! Sure you will find yourself a good replacement. Love the TT.
I think for the money you are looking to spend some Z4s are now affordable, or one of my favourites, the Honda S2000 - no ideas what insurance would say though.

thanks, when i first started looking i thought about these, i like verts (obviously my car!) but not soft tops.. only hard top.. this is really picky i know. i just think soft tops are ugly...
The 225TT is a fantastic car to drive, a real drivers car.
Not two statement I'd necessarily say about the TT, although they are nice enough to drive, very well made with a great interior, and in 225 guise fairly quick, I tried a couple before buying a Boxster just found the TT a little boring, they are by no means a true drivers car as Haldex systems in normal conditions transfers 95% of power to the front wheels unless it notice any slip when it transfers power to the rear, making it essentially a FWD car with all the FWD traits, understeer, and numb steering.
Not saying their bad and at 18 I would of loved to be driving something like a TT I just wouldn't suggest one if you want a real seat of the pants driving experience.
Hmmmm :) ......... Well, you need to consider what other cars are available for the category (which is restricted not by price but by insurance costs) RoRu.
I don't think you'll beat it. As for FWD cars, I've driven many many worse FWD cars :). RWD and the associated insurance premium (IE a 2 litre saloon being insurance group 14.. which is quite madly high.. for the E90.. ) is probably out of reach.
So what you really meant was....
"The 225TT is a fantastic car to drive, and for your given insurance bracket the best of the bunch to drive"
I'm sure you've driven worst FWD cars.........
after all you had a 206 ;) :)
Yep thats what I meant and FUCK YOU!!!!! :p :D
Hahaha :)

i will do,as soon as i get it i can be sure you'll be bombarded with pictures! hehe :D
Definitely welcome aboard. I am sure you will enjoy your stay.
As for the TT. I think they are very capable cars. The engine and turbo in the 225 are superb and very tuneable. I'm originally from the dub scene and have modded a fair few. The latest was...THIS (http://forum.evotechnik.net/showthread.php?t=22253).
They do handle well and as they are quite common and being VAG, parts/mods are abundant so it is a great car to own.
Good luck with the search and just ask if you need any advice...:D

i was thinking remapping it hopefully something around 280bhp
4motion looks good very nice!

Re-map alone would get you probably to around the 265-270 mark without having any negative effects on the engine (and realistic).
You could do the exhaust, induction, upgraded intercooler, upgraded turbo intake pipe, etc, etc.
But before all that, I would actually get the chassis sorted with some nice upgraded shocks and springs, then ARBs and brakes. Brakes are a good upgrade to do. The reason for all the chassis mods first, is that you want the car to handle properly and be able to cope with the extra power/torque from engine mods.

That would be the other reason for doing all the chassis mods first. Using the 225 horse power properly will be far better than just going straight for the map.
