was going down the A30 which cross 312. There was the truck which looked like it was about to have load all over my car so went around him and acclereated up 40 -50 ( 40 miles limit) then notice a copper stood along side his full marked up bmw estate - he was standing out out side with a gun which looked like it had two camera lenses in front of it.
Yeap the gun pointing in my direction
Are these capable of taking picture and number plates and sending fines ??
I think, 50 in a 40 will be a NIP with offered speed awareness course if he got a clear reading. They are definitely capable. Aslong as your license is clear atm then you'll be able to do the course and will be OK. But you might never hear anything.. Who knows..
Fingers crossed for the next 14 days.

oh shit !! it not what i need
bolocks - i thought that these guys just pull you over and give you hell and then give a fine
but your saying that they can capture images as well
I'm not 100% sure if I'm honest but I always believed they could NIP you as well as pull you at the scene.. Let someone else confirm or call me a twat as necessary before you worry too much though dude

From my own experiece if they were using the handheld units they would have a back up van or bike waiting further along the road to stop you. I've been past one of these and I know that I was over the limit (slightly) and never heard or got anything because I thought the reason being he was on his own. As mentioned if you dont hear within 14 days then forget about it, worrying too much aint gonna help you really. :)

Unless it varies from county to county that's not true. I had 6 points and was offered the course
cheers

Sorry i should have explained. I already had six points on my licence from two different speeding offences previously. As far as i know they have 14 days to issue you with an NIP from the date of alleged offence. There are ways of getting out of it
www.pepipoo.com
Full of lots of information, i didn't have the bottle to fight my speeding cases so just took the points and paid the insurance premium hike!
cheers and good luck
I should clarify re speed awareness. They only offer you speed awareness if you've not done it before in the last 3 years I think it is. Thus when I said points on the license already, I assumed that you must have already done the speed awareness already if you've got points as well.. Obviously that was wrong of me because you can get points for many things besides speed or they could have just not offered it to you etc.
ta-dah. :)
On another note, that pepipoo site is a fantastic resource. Shame it has a stupid name.

Have you got points already? If not don't worry about it, shit happens. 3 points on your license isn't the end of the world, infact something like 1 in 3 drivers have had 3 points.
It was a Sunday, quiet roads, had my KFC bargain bucket, sun bouncing off the freshly polished car (Red CTR back then) and a smile on my face. Then I got busted doing 34 in a 30 on a 2 lane 'dual carriage way' type road, with a 4x4 burning past me - copper decided to point his gun at me, week later i got the fine! I declared my 3points and paid my £60 fine - no choice of 'driver awareness' back then in my area. Insurance only went up £30 as most companies don't care about 3 too much

Mega - I am totally there with hopefully - I will get away with this. Appreciate every ones advice
Do you guys think it worth investing in laser detector??
imo it just encourages you to speed, thinking your safe. dangerous mentality to get into..

Speed detectors are great imo if used correctly, and agreed as MEGA says, not to encourage you to speed and think you are safe .
I try not to speed but it is a fact of life - i think everyone speeds at some point, even by 10% of the limit - heck i was doing 4MPH over the limit and I got busted. Having a loud beep makes me aware that potentially there is a speed camera/van/gatso.
This is also great when I am travelling and in an area I am not familiar with. It has saved me a couple of times, £200 on a detector, or potentially 6 more points.
Hoping you don't get busted, but in hindsight if you had a detector and it beeped you, would you have pulled the manouver?
Down to personally preference, but happy to have mine.

Nope I would have just slowed right down and pissed off a load of drivers behind me, but small price to pay - to not have my smashed my car by window frames falling my car and have me injured and have 3 points. So no I wouldn't have pulled that move at all. I hear what your saying about driving in areas that you don't know - sometime the speed camera's are really well hidden, and are you ever sure that it 40 or 30 in some places
Sit and wait game now.
To be fair if I was speeding on purpose – then I would accept the points and think bad luck – but I actually did it so would not have smashed my m3 up which I only have owned for a month.
Did you guys remember the first day of ownership some idiot in megane almost wrote my car for me.

HAppens to everyone with some car or other to blame.
A week after owning the peugeot, some italian idiot swang out of the left lane and clipped the side of me. I was 18, it was my first car which I'd just paid £5200 for that I'd saved for 18 months, and I was absolutely devastated.
