Ok so there's still a few things still left to do like the spare wheel needs somewhere to bolt it down and the cover going on. The wipers also need installing. There's also a few things on the interior that need doing too but it's just in time for the Stoneleigh kit car show next weekend!

Wow - excellent work.

I can see it's got a BMW engine of some sort, but what's the spec?

Dan, its on his site- msportster.co.uk. great write up there.

''Recently we've rebuilt the engine from 2.5 to a 2.8 creating an M20B28 stroker engine.''

Great job and sure its a pleasure to built something like sportster.

Thanks all :D

When it rains, don't stop and you wont get wet (or keep a brolly to hand :D )

Fitted the spare today, it's underneath a cover:

As for the engine spec its a BMW M20 from a 1988 E30. Installed an M52B28 crank, M20B20 conrod (130mm instead of 135) and stock pistons which results in a 2.8, it also has Shrick valve springs and a dbilas 282 /272 camshaft. Ant @ A-Tech does a chip for this configuration. Should be good for 200bhp, maybe even a bit more. Eventually I'll install standalone EFI.

The engine re-build is documented here: http://www.msportster.co.uk/faq.asp?FAQ=25

I'm planning on getting a set of 3 piece Image Wheels at some point, just need to decide on type, size and width. 15"er's work quite well on there, 16 would be a good compromise but it seems to be difficult to get good tyres in that size. 17's would fit but they're starting to get a bit big and heavy. The rolling radius is the same as an E36/E46 BMW :)

The wheels on there now came with the donor BM, they are TSW's - quite heavy for the size.

For something that weighs as much as about 7 tea bags it must go like stink and sound awesome.

The paint job is pristine and it looks

thanks :D

It is quite nippy, certainly faster than anything else I've driven. Ought to be with around 850Kg and a 2.8 6 pot :) There are some nutters out there running the E36 M3 Evo engine which is another 100bhp on top!

that looks quality mate, a lot of blood and sweat gone into that. Nothing like a car built out of passion. Top job.

that car is the dogs bollerks mate, i love it !

i am assuming you built this yourself? if so how hard was it to do, was it a kit or did you do it from scratch? i have been thinking of doing something like this myself but not nuts enough / want a decent daily car first :D

Thanks, it's a build it yourself from a "kit" a kit in as much as you get a chassis + body panels. The "instructions" where about 30 digital pictures on a CD and some paper work in relation to the older version based on a Ford. This is the main reason I made the website so there was one piece of documentation that covered my build - a bunch of over builders also have sites. I've got a diary from the start of the build here: http://www.msportster.co.uk/build.asp

The help line was OK but I found their advice was always a little on the bodge side of things - ie stock E30 springs are too long so just heat them up and collapse them  There's a good community for this car on madabout-kitcars.com

I basically made it up as I went a long really and with help from other builders and my brother Richard we ended up with it as it is now :)
