I've got a keen chap coming to see my L200 tomorrow, and he's bringing cash with him.

Have told him it's on finance, which he's fine with, but he wants assurance that the finance is cleared before he drives off, which is fair enough.

The finance company is Bank of Scotland, but there doesn't appear to be a bank branch near me, or many branches at all anymore

What should I do?

Would it be acceptable to take him and the cash to the nearest branch of my personal bank, get them to check and count the cash, then get a CHAPS transfer to Bank of Scotland finance?

Help!

I`d get him to settle it by card on the phone in your house then take the difference in cash. Put the phone on loudspeaker and ask them to fax/email conformation that it`s settled.

Or you could settle it the same way in front of him.

Have done this on many occassion (you might have guessed), best and most secure way is, call RBS or whichever bank the finance is with in front of him on loud speaker, get their bank details and go to their branch and pay the cash in front of him directly into the RBS account, or go to you local bank Barclays or whatever and do the Chaps payment infront of him and confirm to the cashier to the prospective buyer that the chaps payment unlike a bankers draft is not cancelable or changable in any way, once he hears this from a bank rep he will be satisfied and then let him go in his new toy and you can get a cab and drive to the nearest lap dancing club and blow the remaining funds, job done, everybody gets a good ride, you more than him

I used Lombard for one of my other car's and they are part of rbs and they have a natwest account which is also rbs i believe. The buyer paid them directly in a branch and they confrmed over the phone they had cleared the finanace, this can take a few hours though.

There used to be a rbs in north end Croydon and in streaham also.

Edit: just seen the link, posting off iPhone and seen it's hbos not rbs.

Brilliant - thanks guys!

I'll speak to BOS Finance in the morning and get their bank details.

And yep, it's an RBS opposite the Whitgift Centre, not a BOS

Spoken to finance company and they won't accept cash, but will take a card or bank transfer and speak direct to the potential buyer. He's happy with that too, and is due here within the hour! Fingers crossed....

A shiny new DSG VW Caddy Van, coming in May :)

Must admit I didn't realise I'd sell the truck so quickly, and as I'm without the E55 as well Carrie's Qashqai is my new work vehicle!

Congrats Dan. Glad the transaction went smoothly. It's been a week and a half since my baby went in under the knife... I do miss her.
