Auto gearbox E46 330ci supercharged
Just drove down to see family, and car doing something strange. I'll try to explain it. I was doing about 80 mph, and say I wanted to accelerate, the gearbox would change down and then engine would seem to accelerate on its own and hit the rev limiter. I tried it in manual mode and the same. Doing about 70-80ish, change down to 4th, accelerated and would couldn't change up to 5th, just stayed in 4th till it hit the limiter.

Very strange and hope that makes some sense

Just returned home. Lower speeds seem fine and drove back in drive (D) no problems. Lesser speeds fine (50 - 70ish) gearbox changed down and accelerated normally.

Found this on e46 fanatics

The car is an 00 323Cic with a steptronic and 35k miles. I have had the same trans slip happen to me twice now. Its been on long highway trips where its been warm, 80-90 degrees. After cruising in top gear for a while I have had a car pull out in front of me causing me to slow down. I switch into the left lane so as not to get run over I put the pedal 3/4 of the way down, in regular drive. The car attempts a downshift to 3rd and instead just hits the rev limiter like it went into neutral. When I take my foot off the gas one time the car dropped back into fifth with still about 3/4 throttle and lugged without downshifting. The second time it shifted into fourth. Anyone have something similar happen? Does this mean its just going to get worse from here? Thanks

Greg
