I am looking to get some 19" wheels. :D I'll probably get wider ones for the rear 19x9.5 so I'm wondering on tyres. this isn't from a 'which is better' argument but from an 'avoid rubbing if possible' view.

I currently run dunlop sp9000s on my MV1s and am very happy with them. 19 265 30 tyres though are going to be pushing it close when it comes to rubbing and I have seen it mentioned before that different tyres have different shoulder profiles, some more rounded than others and hence provide more clearance.

so what are you thoughts, wouldn't want to spend more than equivalent dunlops. Does anyone actually know if the Dunlops are one of the more rounded tyres? or should I perhaps consider something different, I have certainly seen a number of Goodyears on forum cars here (can't remember which ones - but you'll know) I know the tyres are rated, but would they be better suited in this wider format??

A garage owner I know has ACS 4's running 235 front and 265 rears and they are rubbing when somebody is sitting in the back and he has'nt even lowered it. I honestly can't remember what tyres he has but I think it would be better to stick to 255's rear, somebody will no doubt correct me if I'm wrong.

Falkens have a very rounded tyre wall. So (offset dependant) 265 at the rear, even when lowered shouldnt rub. Im going to try 285 at the rear when mine need replacing.

actually a quick query, which is related but really just out of interest,

how is it that you can put different width tyres on the same size of rim. surely this will affect the angle of the side walls and hence tyre performance. Or have I misunderstood all the tyre size gumph :o

The 40 rear side wall profile you're running is probably to compensate for the stretched 255 over your Hamann wheel.

I'm running 275/30/19 rears on 19X10 rims and 245/35/19 fronts on 8.5J rims. Ideally you should match you front 235/35 with 265/30 rear tyres.

dude its not stretched.... its only an 8.5J rim. Also its a michelin tyre on it..... I like the look of less tyre but i like the way the car sits at a slight angle with the 40 on the back.

Still curious as to how you can run different sized tyres on one size of rim, I would have thought that it changed the profile of the tyre? Surely if the sidewall doesn't sit at a set angle it changes the performance of the tyre?

I would draw a diagram of my question if I could but I don't have the facility here so you'll have to imagine what it is I am asking.
