Hi

Whilst cleaning my rear arches this weekend, I noticed that 1 tyres was ALMOST at the legal limit. This together with the fact that the rims are kerbed (before i got them) im likley to get rid on ebay and buy some new wheels/tyres. I see it that if i get 250 for my current wheels, + 70 which it would have cost me for a new tyres - ive only got to shell out another 300 to get a decent set of 18"'s - but then again - i may change my mind again!!!

So - im looking at the standard 18" BMW EVO 2 style wheel, and can get for around 555 inclusive with kumho/falken tyres - this is 8x18 with 225/40/18 tyres. Now, i know on the OEM rims, the rears are wider - as in 8.5J - and so has a fatter tyres, 255 on the rear

If i get 8x18j wheels, how will a 255 tyres look on it?

Does anyone have pic comparisions?

Oh yea, and if u can and havent already, whip ya rear wheels off and clean ya arches - i was amazed by the amount of mud that scraped off!

My dealer told me that my 8.5 rears should have 235 tyres??? The fronts have 225 which is correct and actually the rears have 225 too because I guess the idiot who changed them last didn't bother to get the correct size and just assumed they are the same as the front.

When I picked up my car it had 225 all round (Contiential Sport Contact on the front and cheapy tyres on the rear) on my MV 18's but when I had it serviced at BMW they told me it should have 255 on the rears. So I brought some Continental Sport Contacts for the rear in 255 35 and they look so much better than the 225's car does actually feel a bit more planted especially on cornering.

Cheers

If you have 8.0J rims, I would stick to 225 tyres. 255 will bulge at the sides unless you opt for tyres with very narrow wall profile like the Falken FK-451.
