i wouldn't worry to me it sounds like the guy's vanos has fail and decided to scare everyone into think everyone's vanos' are on their way out, his car was a 06 with 30k on the clock, If their was a widespread vanos problem (like on the e36 m3) i think we would have all heard of it before now, i mean come on what about all the cars sold before 06 including all those high miler's, its never been a huge issue on the e46 M3 like on the e36.

as i said the guy is panicking everyone for no reason

Great thread (link) and I'd agree with the above.

There was a Guy (Ted13B) who claimed to be a BMW technician who quoted:

"Sorry guys, there is no recall on M3 Vanos. The only thing even close is a bulletin establishing criteria for notifying BMW before doing major engine work, covering main bearings, turbos, Vanos, etc. No recalls."

I'm far from an expert on 'M' cars, perhaps someone else can confirm the situation on the Vanos in the UK.

I guess the moral of the story is, that should you get your car that has an aftermarket supercharger installed, serviced at BMW whilst still under warranty, and the car then goes belly up, don't get all indignant and arsey because your warranty is voided.
To make it worse, he turned into a bit part Lawyer (if he really is one,he's a loser!) quoting laws that specifically excluded modifications, and still claimed he was in the right, and BMW were wrong, and also bang out of order.

It's a bit like getting done for speeding on a M/way at 100+, arguing the toss, then calling the copper a wŁnker, and then being surprised when you get busted!

Good call on the above. I agree tbh that this guy is in the wrong. Harsh for him but he just needs to get over it to be honest. This is the risk we run with modifying the engine. If after my car is remapped the turbo blows I would not try and blame anyone but myself and my own bad luck.

Moving on..

This bloody got me going for a while:eek: On another note the link on the low maintenance for the Vanos filter, is it worth doing or has anyone done it?
