I was wondering if there would be any benefit by having straight through pipes i.e. no cats on the z3 M Roadster. I know it would sound louder but would there be a power increase? Also would this cause any warning lights etc. as with newer models? Mine is 1999.:D

Wanted to avoid using racing cats as this would be a more costly option especially as I may not be keeping the car for too long.

Also would the exhaust pop or produce flames like most high bhp turbo cars?

P.s. hoping it sound more like a TVR afterwords lol. I already have Ac Schnitzer back boxes which have given it a deeper note!

Thanks in advance everyone.

i personally think their would be a loss of power down the rev range, cant explain why, just think it would

It would be LOUD!! Especially in an MZ which has a soft top and you sit about 2 feet from the exhaust!

You would get incredible backfire and popping but I'm pretty sure blue flames wouldn't be on the menu!

Performance wise, I don't really know. Obviously less restrictive in theory but can't say it would definately add power.

Again, emmissions for me, is pretty much guess work.

Here is an idea of what it might sound like...

As stated you'll get an increase in noise if that's what your after.

N/A cars need a certain amount of back pressure to product low down torque which is taken in to account when the system is designed so you'll defiantly loose some low down grunt, on the other hand due to the reduced back pressure the engine may rev easier and possibly make better top end BHP figures.

I doubt that you'll get any flames, this is dependant on the overlap of the cams and seen as they be std items I doubt there aggressive enough to run much if any overlap. I dare say there will be some popping on over-run.

I run straight pipes on mine but with the standard back box, I don`t get any flames but it does pop and bang on the over run.

Would u say it sounds similar to a tvr, has it affected performance, whats is meant by over run?
