Heya peeps I've not posted for a while, been fairly snowed under with work. As some of you know I've been bored of the A3 for a while now after I had my sensible moment of buying a derv. WTF that was about I don't know but meh *shrugs*

Anyhoo... lol moving on! I've finally pulled my finger out and advertised my car on trader, after going live on the net its sold before it's even been printed in the magazine! I went to meet a chick last night who I've arranged finance for, all docs are signed, done, deposit paid and sent down to payout and so she should be picking it up on saturday which leaves me carless.

I have however been shopping about on the sly amongst some jap imports, I like to be different with something a little less common. I shall be returning to high performance and most likely in this state of tune it would potentially have seen off my RS4 in a drag yet return good fuel when off boost ;)

With the whole driving convictions scenario my insurance isn't cheap as some of you may know as per the RS4, I refuse to pay that kind of money again because in my eyes its dead money that I'll never get back but at my age I would be paying into 4 figures with my SP30's no matter what I drive so I thought I'd find a happy medium between performance and cost. The quote I received last night for a modified car its less than half the price of my RS4 insurance... Its still silly money but it could be worse, in time it'll come down! The joys of being 21

Because of the above reasons it ruled out skylines and evos because insurance companies dont like the names however I wouldn't want another 4WD car anyway. I have my eye on one particular motor that fingers crossed I will go and view on sunday, I've been doing a bit of digging into the history of the car to see if its straight or had a erm... colourful past haha. Things seem okay and with the style of the mods the car has and him being a member of the owners club, I've got the impression he is a mature guy that has looked after his car so I think we could be onto a winner.

If all goes to plan I will put a deposit down on the car on sunday if it's as mint as he claims and that way I can have a good look round it in the daylight and then I'll sort insurance and blast over again one weeknight for the grand unveiling haha.

Needless to say... this time I'm going back to having some fun and it will see the majority of shows throughout the next year and be looked after with a real passion like my previous cars from back in the day. I'm not disclosing too many details at the moment incase things fall through but I think you'll be quietly impressed, even you jap haters :P

E4 EVL will be returning to a car near you soon and damn right will she be evil ;) That reg plate only travels in style :D aint that right Dan? Watch this space!!!

Nice to see you have your EvoTechnik hat on, and the sensible one off:p

RWD, affordable and japanese...Hmmm RX7 perhaps, or a Silvia S15/14 thingy.... or an RX8 like Hserce's?

Does the winner get a pint for guessing correctly?:D

Tilly
22-01-2009, 02:11 PM
RX7's are soooooo not affordable haha I considered a gen3 but they're suicidal on insurance and fuel! The RX8 wouldn't be unique enough for me... they sold them in england :P and the S14's were five speed, crap LSD, too old and again.. sold in england ;)

But no, I'm sorry to disappoint but I'm not going to play guessing games incase the deal falls through in the next two or three days so if I don't answer peoples questions I'm not being ignorant, just don't want to count my chickens quite yet!!!

Bah... its not a guessing game guys! I'm going to view the car on sunday and I've had confirmation of payout yesterday for the chicks finance on my car. They should pay me out within 3 working days so unfortunately I won't quite have all the funds in time for viewing the car on Sunday but I can go and test drive it in the daylight and place a deposit if its clean then just nip back over Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday to pay the balance and drive off sideways back home in a RWD car where I belong!

I reckon its a supra though. Still has awesome looks :)

It cant be a type r, as they all are FWD.

So why you making us guess then!?!?!

I'm not making anyone guess pal :) I was giving an update on where I'm at because I've been a little quiet on here for a while and as per my previous post, I'm not answering any questions on what it is because if the deal falls through I'll potentially be looking at a different car altogether as this is the only one that seems to be my kinda car for sale, the rest aren't floating my boat and I'm going to be carless from tomorrow so need a motor sorting asap!!!

Tilly
23-01-2009, 12:25 PM
Although a little off topic I have to come back to that S15... That yellow is such a rare colour, I think they've spoilt it with those rims, really not feeling them :(

Supra if you're hardcore, Datsun 240z if you have style, Mazda Cosmos or Subaru SVX if you want to be different...but NSX gets my vote;)

Thank you very much for that Ken, please actually read my posts. No wonder everyone's leaving this forum I might just follow suit, noone listens anyway, its so bloody clicky.

It's not my problem people don't read what you say around here:

But no, I'm sorry to disappoint but I'm not going to play guessing games incase the deal falls through in the next two or three days so if I don't answer peoples questions I'm not being ignorant, just don't want to count my chickens quite yet!!!

I don't want to commit to saying its a particular car incase it isn't as described because there're no others that interest me on the market so I'd end up buying something else and no doubt get stupid comments and flamed to the hilt. I give up.

dodgyken

The word you were looking for was clique :D

You don't have to shout and scream about looking at a particular car - but starting a thread that you are looking at a car without any details is just saying "look at me".

If a deal doesn't work out, it doesn't work out. Getting excited about it is what drives the passion most people have for their cars. A thread like this - and the one you did for the RS4 - is you just looking for attention.

Edit: Additionally - I know by replying I am giving you that attention - almost ironic. If you posted what car you were looking at EG Make and Model - you would be creating the seed of a more positive more focussed conversation - people might post they had one, what mods they did, why they liked it, why they didn't - all of which might prove a lot more useful then half a dozen pages of prick-teasing

XKaLiBaR

I'm just going to follow trend and keep my head down, browse the forums and not bother being an active contributor because it's not worth the aggro. Mods please feel free to lock or delete.

For anyone that's arsed. I went to view yesterday and placed a deposit, providing my funds clear in time I'll be picking it up tomorrow night, if not, it will be thursday:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/SiScort/Silvia/rear.jpg

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v465/SiScort/Silvia/enginebay.jpg

The spec as such is a Nissan Silvia Spec R, They run an SR20DET lump and GT28R BB turbo at 250 bhp out of the packet, the car has being reasonably heavily modded with Tein superstreet coilovers setup and corner weighted at whiteline. The car runs adjustable top mounts and fully adjustable suspension arms, whiteline uprated antiroll bars, its poly bushed and has a cusco strut brace so lets just say the chassis is set up perfectly.

It has a skyline R34 front brembo brake conversion with 324mm discs, ferodo pads and braided hoses with genuine Rays engineering VOLK TE37's which are extremely lightweight wheels.

Enginewise the car is running an Apex front mount intercooler with a hardpipe intercooler kit inc. hot pipe. The exhaust system... an Apex 3" turbo elbow, a Blitz 3" downpipe, decat and a HKS Hi power silent exhaust which is a big dirty jap can as per the pics only without the stupidly loud noise. I'd rather it be subtle and quiet than in your face :) It has a cusco oil catch tank, a Greddy filter relocator which moves the Apexi induction kit to the strut, walbro 255 fuel pump, HKS adjustable actuator and lets not forget the dinky Nismo 1.3 bar rad cap lol!!! :D The s15 as standard is much improved over the S14's with a 6 speed box and helical LSD out of the box, awesome drive!

Away from this... it has the factory aerokit, defi gauges, a Nismo Ti gearknob, C's short shifter kit, Nismo side repeaters and Nismo wind deflectors. Exterior wise it is soon to have yashio factory clear rear lights to bring it up to date and hide its age with the E4 EVL reg

It's done 47000 miles with a full respray circa 12 months ago (3 pack base coat and 3 pack top coat with it being pearlescent white). It's a very high spec model with xenons, a rear wiper which is rare, digital aircon and an electric sunroof - again this is rare on a JDM car.

Out on the road, this car would eat the RS4 for breakfast, chew it up and spit it out. For obvious reasons it wont have the same point to point speed where cornering is involved but acceleration is immense and genuinely scares me which is crazy because no car or motox bike has bothered me in the past. The RS4 feels like a baby in comparison, as soon as it hits boost circa 2.5k revs it pulls like a train running 0.9 bar when spooled. I anticipate it will be running around 285bhp but obviously with it being forced induction this power will be available early in the rev range and continue to pull right through.

The throw on the shifter is amazing and you have to sort of double clutch... UP gears from 1st to 2nd to get the power down safely and effectively. It's definitely a car to take easy in the wet as they have no traction control and if these things come onto boost even when not pushing the cars, they will light up the rears in 1st through to 3rd and twitch in 4th. It's a pure monster.

It gives me the grin factor that German and Italian cars never have. At work I've been in many M3's, M5's, RS, 911's, AMG's, Ferraris and Lambos and the power delivery is nothing in comparison (Apart from maybe a tuned 911 turbo) But the feeling of boost pinning you to the seats over-rules the feeling of any V8/V10 or supercharged cars linear power delivery. You physically cannot help but grin everytime it spools up and wants to drag your eyeballs from your head. Immense!

On another note, sorry to put a downer on things, this is nothing personal so no hard feelings but I don't like what this forum has become and the general consensus and attitudes have changed majorly over the years so I won't really be coming on here all that often. That statement is not aimed at anyone in particular and is a generalisation so I don't want anyone thinking I'm being a knob.

For those who know me know personally or anyone that wants to get hold of me, you can happily find me on the good old facebook and floating around various other forums but I dont want to spread myself too thin because time is short and I hate to say it but I think its time to move on from EvoT with the current state.

Tilly,
Nice pick, I used to have the S13 200sx and nearly went for the S15, but could not find the right one at the time, as you say 250bhp out of the box is great & the T28BB can handle more, I see it is running some nice mods, i think your 285bhp figure might be a bit out i would take a guess @ 320bhp+

You will have day of fun in that car, never did I have a dull day with my S13:D and as you say be careful without TC:D

Really nice example Tilly & have fun driving.

Tilly - as for the turbo feeling - the Volvo is running 470nm - the joy of diesel  - and the pull is just bonkers. You barely have to flex your ankle and the speed just builds - acceleration increments (every 10/20kmh) is just linear.

For out and out drivability though I would still take a high revving N/A engine.

I have a feeling you will enjoy the car - just stay on the black stuff ;)

Nor had I, I only really saw them on the drift scene but to be honest the build quality is fantastic, I have no quarms whatsoever going into this car, its fantastic and bearing in mind the last four cars... BMW E46 coupe, W203 Merc C-class, B7 Audi RS4 and Audi A3 8P sportback. All of which have been new or upto 2 years old so as you can imagine it has a lot to live up to. For the money its a pure monster. The spec with the xenons and folding mirrors etc is awesome :) I really cannot complain.

Mods available are very high quality and there're so many options out there. I do actually have some interior shots but they're terrible IMO so need some new ones but they're still uptodate in my eyes...

Talking Alpine.. NVE-0990p is EXPENSIVE but good. A much cheaper option is w505 with Blackbird built in (The w505 has a dock inside the unit for Blackbird). Puts you at less than a K for everything you just mentioned except the speed cameras, which can be sorted out by a POGO. Perhaps hidden behind the middle vent or somewhere else similar?

Lovely car the S15, my mates looking into getting one.

Who did you get insured with, Sky?

MEGA
26-01-2009, 12:35 PM
LOL :D

Its a portable sat nav unit, that has full output to the alpine touchscreen double din units. Basically you can take it out and use it like a tomtom etc when in a mates car, but you flip your screen down and put it IN your double din unit, and your unit then becomes a 7" touchscreen navi unit with POI etc.

Its cheaper than their DVD based navi because it misses 1 or 2 features, for instance an accelerometer, and the ability to "guess" where you are when there is no GPS signal based on trajectory. The advantage, besides being able to take it out of the car to use elsewhere (which I doubt I'd ever do) - is in the price.

I dunno the full ins and outs mate, Andy would be the one to ask, he might think its shit - but for the money... (approx £700 cheaper all in compared with getting the NVE dvd unit.. ) ...

HTH.

To be honest pal I've not insured it yet, thats tonights job! I've got a couple of quotes so I know its deffo fine but I'm going to call a few others later on today to see if I can get the figures down a bit. Sky is a good point... I've not spoken to them yet I don't know why I overlooked this, they seem to sponsor a lot of the forums, cheers for that :D

And Mega... that sounds pretty slick, any idea on the script with bluetooth and Ipod?

MEGA
26-01-2009, 01:00 PM
iPod is full on-screen connectivity with the unit via a £10 cable, straight out of the box. (KCE-422i)

The W505 doesn't come with Bluetooth but the module for it is £80-£100 depending where you get it. Then its full on screen phone book too.

If you want integrated solution the Alpine bluetooth is fine, but the Parrot kit is better at it admittedly and costs the same. Alpine one isn't fully compatible with as many phones.. Your call. Obviously parrot kit means something else on your dash though, whereas Alpine, its all via the HU.

I'm all info'd out now lol.. Speak to mr. Icecold! :)

The alpine bluetooth isn't too great tbh. I had it for a while and it was fully compatible with my phone but kept dropping calls or not answering them when I told it too. Ended up getting the parrott kit.

Although there is a new alpine bluetooth module out which I haven't tried, but from reading opinions and reviews I hear its just as bad as the first one.

I don't think the NVE option will be £700 different.

Quick search on the net finds £389 premium for going with the dvd nav. Well worth it imo.

http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/9174/referer/rc_froogle.html

http://shop.audioimages.co.uk/alpine-packw505r-99-mobile-media-navigation-package-p-1497.html

I don't know what price Andy does so your prob better off talking to him first, but if not caraudiosecurity are just like a market bazaar, you can haggle with them loads and bring the price down and they will.

Another difference between the two in addition to what Mega mentioned is that the dvd unit has a much faster processor. Routing and re-routing from a wrong turn are literally instant and not sure what the signal is like on the blackbird but the dvd unit has never dropped and has always been found as soon as I've started the car.

Big recommendation from me for the NVE-N099P unit.

You actually used a Blackbird though?

ps - my price was based on me thinking it was 300 vs 800, and also the fact theres a bit of a labour charge affiliated with NVE setup whereas Blackbird is plug and play.

I don't rate caraudiosecurity they seriously messed around with a work colleague.. :p

Nah haven't used a blackbird myself was just trying to say that I think the dvd unit is really good.

With the pricing, the NVE unit is around £550 (http://www.caraudioni.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=186&zenid=2db83aa4c150ccaa5936d32bde0cfd8c). The labour charge to fix it somewhere and wire up that and the GPS receiver will prob take an hour if not less. Andy fitted mine in the BM and cost £50 to fit. Still nowhere near £700 difference :P

I'm going to cry! How I don't know but they registered my SP30's as one for 3 points, one for none, and somehow overlooked the idea of the one with no points being a 56 day ban!!! Even though they were told about it and the fine too so now they've just upped the premium by £500 :'( Not buzzing! But its still the cheapest quote so I've paid it *sigh* properly skint now lol

Congrats on a car Tilly. Looks like its a monster you got there. New re-spray does make the car look fresh.

once you think about the navigation- if you dont need to have it portable-moving from one car to another- then stick with 099 unit(dvd) the Blackbird dont come even close.I had the 077 unit before, and now i hate blackbird :)

only good side is its portable and shows speed cameras on a map.

if blackbird wasnt charged or battery low- and its shutting down- and there is no juice in a battery- it wont power up. Even after full charge after. You will need to send it to the alpine to have it fixed.

Yeah to be fair on paper my driving history doesn't look all that good but in reality its not as bad.

I have two SP30's and a bump that was about £4k for both cars. Granted the bump is fair enough and I'll hold my hand up to that one. But both the SP30's were dodgy. The ban was ridiculous when they had no evidence and yes I was speeding but I was nowhere near those speeds. And the second SP30 was just a 3 points £60 fixed penalty but was laughable, if it wasnt for my ban I would've contested it because it was well dodgy but meh whatever, such is life. I've got it so I'll live with it, even if it does cripple me :(

great car Mark, i wished I kept all the Japanese dori-dori drift mags as I just had a massive clearout few weeks back. Silvia's are much better looking car than the 200sx (people call them '180' in Japan) and are very tunable with relative low cost in comparison to the likes to R34/Evo. Nice colour too...if you need to decipher any Japanese service booklets then drop me a pm:)

ps I assume the headunit has been replaced or your radio has a wavelength expander installed? or else you'll be stuck on Radio 4 with Jimmy Young:)

[QUOTE=danch]Tilly,
Nice pick, I used to have the S13 200sx and nearly went for the S15, but could not find the right one at the time, as you say 250bhp out of the box is great & the T28BB can handle more, I see it is running some nice mods, i think your 285bhp figure might be a bit out i would take a guess @ 320bhp+

You will have day of fun in that car, never did I have a dull day with my S13:D and as you say be careful without TC:D

Really nice example Tilly & have fun driving.

Dan[/QUOT

nice motor mate. not really into jap cars and dont really know much about them, but a guy at work had a 200zx and he was looking to get a aftermarket traction control system for it, which was very popular on the 200zx forum. i think it costs about £1500.

It might be a little bit short notice for sunday because its a fair trek from here and to be honest... I wouldn't know how to launch the thing! From my understanding... Autech and variettas were both after market models from outside tuning companies were they not?

The normal models from what I knew were just the Spec-S (non turbo) and Spec-R (Turbo)

Like my RS4... it has an electric sunroof aswell as the digital aircon which I believe is quite an uncommon option for a jap car as far as I'm aware! It also has electric folding mirrors and are you ready... wait for it!! A rear wiper swit swoo :p

I'm a little bit confused about a button on the dash though...

On the aircon unit there is a heated front window switch and a heated rear window switch just below it in the centre console however... to the righthand side of the steering wheel there is another switch but I dont know what it is... it shows the symbol for a front screen and what looks like a wiper blade vertically across the lefthand side of the screen and a horizontal zigzag line across the bottom of the windscreen, when I turn it on it lights up but doesnt seem to do anything... any ideas? haha and no its not the washer jets PMSL
