View Full Version : Spacers? - Standard Sport wheels?
Has anyone got any pics of a E46 Sport with standard 18" MV alloys and with spacers fitted. I would like to lower the car and make it's stance more menacing while i'm still saving for my 19" CSL's...
Cheers

Make sure you get longer bolts. My standard bolts trashed the hub on only a 3mm spacer!
Mind you taking Adood84 round the M25 at 165mph didnt really help much :o

you can use up to 10mm spacers on each corner without clearence problems ;)

Mmmmhh, I have 18x8 front and 18x8.5 rear MV's on my 320ci, should there be spacers? I had one of the fronts off the other day and there are not. Why would one want them when the wheels fit the arches perfectly?

some prefer the wider stance with spacers . Also slightly better handling as track is increased

I see, looking at them though, they would catch if they stuck out more?!?

Ade, I'm thinking exactly the same thing, do you reckon that spacers really make that much difference, also what springs are you going for?

They make a huge difference but i've never fitted them with standard wheels b4. I had 15mm ones on my Audi S3 and it made the wheels completely fill the arches. Before they were tucked up inside despite being 19's. IMO it's the same with the BM's, the wheels are sat to far in within the arches. They completey change the stance of the car. It's quite a common mod in the Audi world.
I've measured roughly the gap at the rear of my car and there's loads of room to push the wheels out to fill those arches. I'm hoping this coupled with lowering will change the stance of the car while i'm waiting for my alloys.
I'm probably going to go for the Eibach Sportline Kit. If i remember rightly peppernick had this kit on his 330ci and the ride height was perfect. not to low, not too high.... [cool

Sport Lines on a coupe is fine but your's a vert, and verts drop more because of the weight. Durgesh had Sport Lines on his old 330 vert and that was LOW.
I would stick to Pro Kit (You can't get Sport Lines for verts anyway but the coupe springs go right on)
Oh, I don't suppose you have any side view shots of his car in your picture library do you... Could stop me making a costly mistake.
Also, do you know if the coupe Eibach pro kit is the same as the vert pro kit?

I think they have different part no. Check on Eibach's sebsite.
I must say the Sport Line on the vert looks awesome, in fact I would probably do it but I would also take it VERY slowly over humps and uneven surfaces.
Hmmm, Can't find any reference to the sportline kit on Eibachs site for the E46 vert. They do list the pro kit for it though. The part numbers are the same for the 330 coupe as they are for the 330 vert yet they quote a greater drop on the vert! Is this due to the weight of the vert?

Indeed, but some would say that they could damage the hub wear if used for a prolonged period, but if your getting CSL's shortly, sorted [jam

so....what are we saying here, 5mm spacers or 10mm spacers ?? [hmm

yes , there is a case for saying that spacers will accelerate shaft and hub bearing wear , but this is almost negligible if less than 10mm per wheel .
eibach do not do Sportline for the verts , no , as drop and compression would be too severe for the weight over thr rear axle .
Yeah, i thought as much. To be honest it's plenty low enough now at the rear, it's just the front i want bringing down a little... Still - I guess a small drop at the rear won't hurt ;)
Thanks
