View Full Version : Parking sensors failed
Well they were ok during the day but when i just parked up outside nandos about half an hour ago when i put it in reverse i just heard one long continous beeeep (like the one you hear when ur VERY close to the car behind) then nothing. After that i got no beeps or anything no matter how close i was to the car behind..... I just got home and it did the same thing :(
any ideas guys?. I did just make sure nothing was actually on a sensor (thumbed them down).

one of your sensors has failed. The single tone is a safety feature to let you know there's a problem. The question is now to identify which one. It's a bumper off job for sure. Get a single sensor from a breakers or BMW direct and just swap them out one at a time. If you buy the sensor, bring it round to mine if you like, I'll get some of the boys round and we can fix it

Mine is failing too. I do get this long beep but it does not happen all the time. Sensors still work in between though.
not sure if this works on e46's.. but presume its the same..
put it in ingition 2 (don't start the car/engine!)... stick it in reverse.. so the pdc is active.
then get out and place your good ear ;) against each of the sensors.. you should hear a very fast clicking sound from each sensor.. thus meaning that its working correctly.. if you don't hear the clicks.. could be a dodgy sensor or connection... can get them on the german ebay site... once u've got past the language barrier ;)

What year is your car? There's 4 different part numbers depending on which month / year your car is. Price is around £40 inc VAT
oo yea just checked realoem... mines 2000 so only one. I noticed it says quantity 4. Does that mean they come in a pack of 4 or is it just telling you there is 4 of them.

You're right. I selected 2001 as your model year by mistake

ah ok i was thinking maybe the dates meant upgraded parts for a minute there...... trip to the dealers tomorrow it is then. Think ill just go without parking sensors till andy's ready to dynamat the rear. He'll have the bumper off so can shove the sensor on then.
ok got the part and replaced it quite easily without taking bumper off and all is fine :D (my pdc are along the strip on the bottom of the bumper so just had to get under the car and yank the old one out)
