it all depends how you play the system im sure either teddy or some1 will be able to help more, with recent events it does hinder getting round tax though most stuff is checked.

When you use courier services, you will most likely need to pay tax. They declare EVERYTHING. Even on second hand goods.

VAT at 17.5% and custom charges (according to dimensional weight I think). If your item is valued at more than $50, you may ned to pay import duty as well at 5% if I'm not mistaken.

Put it as gift and only insure for 200 dollars. This way you will pay very little tax if any! As far as I know, you still have to pay for 2nd hand goods.

hi

to be 100% legal ypu have to pay import duty and VAT on the total order value INCLUDING shipping costs ...I know ,it SUCKS LARGE ! About 20% overall

However , you can get the sender to send a low value commercial invoice to reduce the tax bill , or as you say mark it "gift" . make sure he does submit thiscommercial invoice tho ' or customs will make their own estimate , usually higher .

good luck

Just be careful about declaring lower value on goods - if they get lost then the insurance only pays out the amount you specified. Other than that, yep, even secondhand stuff has to have duty paid.

very good point ...yes , the only downside of declaring lower value is that the courier company will only have it insured for the declared figure ...unless you take out seperate insurance ..in most cases about the same as paying the duty anyway !!
