Just wanted to see what people think about the pioneer avic x1r and the alpine IVA-W505R, iv already got the pioneer unit in my car and frankly i find the ipod control useless, its slow not very informative and just not that good, when i was looking to buy a HU i wanted good ipod control with album artwork, ipod video use, bluetooth phone connection and a decent sound, i also wanted the satnav built in, this is what drew me to the pioneer which only has the sat nav. im thinking about a change, i dont use the sat nav as much as i thought and although it is handy at times i think i could live without it, what im asking is what is the most complete package for using the ipod that could be expanded with the use of sat nav or future upgrades to the system i,e headrest monitors for the children, sound quality is a must. thanks jason....

w505 is a good unit. it does have the added feature of the inbuilt sat nav unit which you can take to another car to use. the ipod interface is 10000000 times better than the avic x1 unit!

be wary of the amount of work you have to do to get the unit in though. you have to modify the heater box and get a double din facia panel. as long as thats cool then it is a good unit to go for.

how much would you charge to fit if and do the heater box mod if I were able to get hold of the alpine unit cheap, also get new comps fitted while you were there

Another recommendation for the 505. Top unit and has the best ipod control out of all the head units I've had.

Sounds good to Me, the pioneer is useless controling the iPod. Will look around for a cheap one.

Does the alpine unit come with the sat nav? Or do you need to purchase it seperately? If so how much?
Any thoughts on the pioneer F900? Seems a pretty good price for an all in one unit, but is the ipod control any good?
cheers

the alpine unit accepts the portable blackbird that just slots in behind the display, looks quite clever, have a look on YouTube there is quite a lot of video on this sort of thing, as for the pioneer I can only say the model I have is useless, don't know about the newer range.

labour to fit would be approx £200 for the headunit inc the heater box mod and £60 to fit the comps.

Yeah I saw pictures of the alpine, agreed it is very clever, did a quick search for prices and it was around £400-500 just for the slot in unit and then another £600 for the headunit.
I always used to have pioneers and found them to be really good, but that was before ipods so have no idea in that respect.
Will be interested to hear your thoughts on whatever you get fitted as I'm still thinking about doing similar as I've pretty much decided to keep my car now.
