Am interested in Teddys m3 mirrors but don't have memory electric seats, so thought I could link up to car alarm.

Supposedly this is possible, does anyone know of anyone who has done it?

I've had mine linked to the alarm, as far as i know nobody else has had it done yet. Its just a matter of getting the dealer to reprogramme your car. From everything i've heard though, you should still buy the switch to fit in the drivers door to make sure they work first.

Cheers for the reply, finally found someone who has done this.

Are your mirrors aftermarket ones?

Do you mean I need to get a BMW mirror controller with fold switch in it to make it work?

How does it then connect to the alarm?

Did BMW fit it for you and then re-program the alarm?

The mirrors are after market M3 ones from Teddy.

I think you will probably need to get the controller with the fold switch on although i could be wrong.

I fitted the mirrors myself. Easy job, just remove the door cards, then the old mirrors and the new ones should just be plug and play. Took about 30 mins start to finish.

To get them to fold with the alarm you just need to go to the dealers and get them to reprogramme the car. They will probably tell you it can't be done (mine told me this twice) so i just printed out some instructions and gave them to the service manager so he knew what to do. I'll have a look for them and post them here for you.

Here are the instructions i gave to the dealer after they told me it couldn't be done. If they still won't do it get them to ring Haliwell Jones in Southport, they did mine and will probably be able to explain how to do it.

Instructions :

There is a submenu that you can program the mirrors to fold in, it is applicable to our cars. The coding... a sequence of numbers and letters.... that applies to the module that the mirrors are programmed in is different from a car with folding mirrors vs non-folding mirrors. All cars that did not come with folding mirrors have a code and all M3 cars that came with folding mirrors have another code. That is the code you need. Then the code can simply be changed in our cars to resemble that of an M3 with folding mirrors, and turning it on will work.

Cheers so if I get the mirrors, a mirror switch and then get it reprogrammed it should work? Even with a car that didn't have it?

It worked on mine so i see no reason why you shouldn't be able to do it.

Cheers, gonna give this a go. Were the dealers happy to code for aftermarket mirrors?
How much did they charge?
Did you have to get the mirror adjuster with the autofold button on it?

Dealers were happy enough to do it once they had been told it can be done. Don't be surprised if they tell you they can't do it. They charged £27.91 for the button (don't know if you need it, got mine before i realised they could fold with alarm). To re-code car and key cost £36.28 , this might vary depending how long it takes them to figure it out.

Was there any extra wiring involved at all? Did you just put the mirrors on, connect the button and then get it recoded? Not used to newer cars.

Thanks very much for your help, exactly the info I was looking for!

No extra wiring, just a matter of removing old mirrors and replacing with new ones. Same for the switch, take door panel off remove old switch, fit new one and put back together. Mirrors will then fold off the switch. Then just a trip to the dealer for them to re-code car & key.

Cool, thanks for all your help Speed.

That settles it, Teddy if you're reading how long 'til ones are available for the facelift model, mines a March 2002 saloon.
