My radio has lost it's memory.

I have just fitted a BMW business cd player in my 2002 M3. It works fine, but the stations won't hold in memory. Does it need coding?

Sounds to me like the switched 'live' and permanent 'live' are connected 'back to front'. If you swap the 2 around that should cure it. :)

I've never taken these out though and would have thought that they'd all be the same plug.... Defo sounds like that has happened though.

The plug on the back is a large multi plug that can only go on one way. I would imagine all the wires are correct. I changed from the business cassette version to the business cd version. ie almost exactly the same unit.
