Teddy

Just checked the website and dismayed to read m3 mirrors not available to facelift e46s. Have a saloon on the way, any plans to do them for the facelift?

Also description from your website:

Introducing the latest M style performance mirrors for all E46 models including coupe, convertible, saloon, and touring. Retains all factory functions such as electric, heated, auto-dimming, blue-tinted split glass, and autofold with memory function. Mirrors are currently not compatible with facelift E46 models. Please contact us for more information on fitting and compatibility issues.

What do you mean by auto-dimming? Do you mean dipping as in when you select reverse and the passanger one drops down?

Also - do the autofold ones only work with memory seats or do they have a 'loose' wire that could be attached to the alarm/ignition?

It depends on in which month your car was manufacturered really, basically after May 2003 BMW changed all the wiring looms and connectors on all E46 models, therefor the current 6 pin and 12 pin connectors are not compatible with cars manufacturered after May 2003. To make absolutely sure it's best to remove the doorcard and take a look at the wiring looms.

Auto dimming means the glass has a blue tinted surface hence reducing the glare from the car lights behind you when driving in the night.

I know quite a few people have wired the folding function to the alarm/ignition but I have not done it myself. Basically the folding mechanism is operated by a switch and has 2 wires. Autofolding mirrors only comes with memory function.

Teddy, my car is a March 2002 so this should be OK then? It is a facelift model with the different front indicators.

Also does the passanger mirror drop down when you select reverse with your mirrors like the standard ones do?

thats where your wrong teddy , I have autofolding mirrors but no memory functions ;)looks like the autofold option needing memory seats is a must with european cars ..perhaps [hmm

Anyone wired these mirrors up to car alarm (was it standard BMW alarm, was it easy?)

I think that's a dealer option with the standard alarm - i.e. you have it programmed to your key so that when you lock/unlock it folds/unfolds.

So do you think that BMW can only do this with standard autofold mirrors or do you think they could do it with Teddys aftermarket ones?

The autofold button works with Teddy's mirrors, so the electrics must be identical to the originals, so I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work with the reps. Silver's had his done and I think he's got reps not originals, maybe he can confirm. I'd be 99% confident - all the programming of the key does is make it so when you set the alarm it activates the same electric circuit that the button activates, so no reason for it not to have the same end result.

Edit: Just seen the other thread you've got running about this in which Speed has answered the question. I suggest you keep this all in one place as it'll be easier to track.

sorry I meant replica autofolding mirrors only come with memory function, as long as the connector is fo 12 pin type you can fit them but you'll lose the memory function. However as you all know the looms and connectors are all diferent on facelift coupe and convertibles.

Two stripe is your a saloon?

Cheers for reply.

So do you think if you don't have autofold, buy Teddys mirrors and and mirror door switch with the button that it will then work.

Wasn't getting reply on this thread so tried main thread and got more responses.

My 325 coupe didn't have autofold mirrors but did have memory seats. I got a set of reps from Ted and bought the switch from BMW - voila, foldy mirrors. Worked a treat.

(I wasn't forum-policing btw, just thought it was easier to use one thread cos we were all starting to duplicate answers ;))

I don't have either so will have to do some investigating.

PS Is it the memory seats that's required or a memory module elsewhere in the car. i.e. if I got somememory seats would I suddenly be able to use it?
