Justa quick one,
I have a 2000 330Ci and I am have read a few posts on how to turno it off by holding for 3 or 10 seconds until the DSC light comes on with another brake light but none of this is happening when I try.
So does anyone have the definitive answer on how to turno it off.
Cheers

What you have said is right. All you should need to do is hold the DSC button down for about 5 secs and both lights should be illuminated orange on your dash. If thats not happening something must be wrong. Sorry can't help any more.

yep, what speed said. Are you trying with the handbrake up? If so, that's why you're not seeing the additional lumination. The handbrake light is red when applied, if you take the handbrake off, THEN press and hold the DSC button, the light will illuminate yellow

Righto, will try that when I leave work, it's just that when you are used to driving a RWD car(200sx) I don't want any BMW fancy driving aids kicking in.

Yes thats how I did it, following advice posted the other day.
Whilst a question on the DSC has been raised can I ask a general question ?
I only have to run over an manhole or drain cover at 30mph plus and the light flickers on the dash, are they all this sensitive ?
I've tried driving with it all off and you really have be very careful, as it all gets very tail happy, fun but tail happy.

If you drive quickly round roundabouts in the wet, trust me, your gonna need it.

Trust me, I will be leaving it on in the wet, just it's so annoying when in the dry you go to put your foot down coming out of the bend and then wham the DSC kicks in....and the car lurches
Lucky bob mine is exactly the same, go over a speed bump even slowly and then accelerate and it flashes.

Isn't it the CDC kicking in if your flooring it round a corner?

Isn't it the CDC kicking in if your flooring it round a corner?I think you mean CBC (Cornering Brake Control), in which case yes it is almost invariably if you're cornering hard. But then if you want the rear end out and loose, it's working against you to achieve that. Turning it off though will disable the DTR (Drag torque Reduction) aswell, which means you lose some stability going in and getting it set up for the drive out of the corner, but again if you're prepared to work on that 'manually' as it were, you probably gain more than you lose.

If I were you I would only do the first phase turn off ... I started a post on this subject on the BMWCARMAGAZINE forum a few weeks ago, some legend tried it out on a DRY roundabout (DSC FULLY OFF) and by his own admission he nearly ended up colliding with an Artic.
Live safe n stay strong.

I turned mine off today as i usually do when its dry and then forgot. Put my foot down out of a bend and remembered soon enough as the back end went sideways. All i can say is that if your gonna switch everything off then be careful, especially if its not dry.
im only blessed with ASC so can quite easily loose the backend even in the dry :D but it does help ALOT to bring the car under control much easier... Ive managed to save myself quite a few times when the system failed on me totally and i forgot in both wet and dry (dodgy sensor i think is playing up from time 2 time). Have to admit it is a rush to when you control it and manage to drive away safe. Then you crap yourself thinking how close you were to introducing a lamp post 2 your car and drive 10x safer all the way home.

Cheer guys, tried Turning the DSC off last night by starting the car (handbrake off) then holding the DSC for 5 seconds, the only light that comes on is the DSC light but no other.
Do you recon there is something wrong?
Also B*K3*0, as I said before I had a 200sx for 2 years and many other RWD cars in the past and the 200sx is one of the most tail happy cars going and have no such DSC, so I think I can trust myself to turn the DSC off in the dry (will be leaving on in the wet though).

No Dan, that sounds right, you should have a perfectly normal dash but the DSC light should stay on and orange the whole time.

Yes, to clarify:
If you turn DSC off, then the DSC light in the middle of the dash will stay on.
If you fully disable the system (DSC and ABD), then the DSC light and the BRAKE light will stay on.
That should cover all the bases. :)

Look at www.steve-lomax.co.uk/beemersmall.wma
About 20seconds in i show the full DSC switch off...and you can see 2 yellow lights on the dash, despite the handbrake being on.
To turn everything off
1) Ensure DSC is fully on (no yellow lights)
2) Hold DSC for about 5 seconds (2 lights come on)
To turn only traction control off
1) Ensure DSC is fully on (no yellow lights)
2) Press DSC once...middle yellow light comes on
To turn everything on
1) Press DSC button once again.

Not sure Daniel, sounds like you're doing everything right, not sure why you're not getting a full disable.. Steve's video will show you the 2 lights though.
PS Steve, that's a wmv file not a wma ;)

Right after a lot of reading [read have found out that my car was built in Sept 2000 which means I got the early DSC system which you can only press once to deactivate the DSC but not ATC??, any cars built after Sept 2000 have the 2 stage DSC which means you can disable both the DSC & ATC by holding the DSC button for 5 seconds.
Nevermind....
Cheers
