Headlights bulbs

Daft question, but I'm just going round in circles on this.

I have a facelift E46 cab without xenons, so I think thew headlights are projector or HID or something, but have no clue.

Question is, what bulb do these lights take, and can they be upgraded?

Since you have a face lift then yes you do have projectors, but since you don't have xenons (HID = Xenon), (or the auto adjuster/headlamp washers) you will probably be running H7 bulbs.

Can you upgrade to xenon, yes is the short answer, some kits come with the h7 adapter ring and resister pack (for the bulb check) so it's plug and play.

However, upgrading to xenons is a grey area, as EU legislation requires that you also need the auto adjusters and washers, so an on the ball MOT tester *could* fail the car, it requires a test case to determine if after market xenon upgrades are UK road legal (or not).

As Fas has said , they are not illegal . We sell many kits day in day out and none of the cars we have supplied kits to have failed their M.O.T. because of H.I.D.S.

can you put a hid kit on non projector headlights or will they be to bright, as i've seen ones which say made for non halo lights :S ?????

your headlights are projector style and both low and high beam take H7 halogen bulbs. by upgrading the halogen bulbs you will have the perfect xenon look as you already have the projector, but they wont be as bright as the proper retrofit HID kit.

depending on your budget the upgrade halogen bulbs are around 40 a pair, and E46 specific retrofit HID kit around 250.00
