I've now covered just over 6K miles in the M3 now (not bad going...as I only got it the last week of June this year).
Anyway it looks to me as it needs new rubber on the rear.

Should I stick with Michelin pilot sports (OEM) or should I go with say maybe Continental Sport Contact 2?

As I'm rather concerned at the amount of tyre wear with the OEM Michelin's....i mean if need to change them every 6K miles, it's going to be a major costing, as I clock up on average 20K miles plus a year.

The price of the Michelin's and the Conti's are more or less the same, around £280 a tyre. I'm not sure if it's wise to fit the conti's or not?

Any advice??

thanks in advance

Michelins are harder wearing tyres than Contis, no matter how you drive the car.

If you're prepared to accept the running cost of an E92 M3 whilst doing 20k miles a year, £600 for a set of rear tyres every 6k IMO is rather 'reasonable'.

Hi mate, I'm on the PS2's and still have plenty of tread with 8k on the clock

I've not heard a bad word about the PS2's and I'm very pleased with them. The Cups on the other hand wear even quicker!! Some other M3's I met up with the other week were on Michelin Pilot Cups and the wear is phenomenal as they are basically track tyres!

You could try the conti's but then you will have a mix of tyres on the car?

Mate 6k on a RWD car with that power is very good, i do not think i've had any rwd car that the tyres have lasted longer than 6k.

I would advise you try the Bridgestone equivalent or the new Goodyear Assymettric, i can vouch for both having very good life and grip and ride quality.

As Nick said though those sorts of costs are ineveitable with a performance car.

Decided to go with the 'contis Sport Contact 3. Got a pair for £459, getting them fitted on Thursday and on the Friday morning I'm of to the 'ring!
Will give my verdict on the tyres when I return from my epic journey!

Apparently for a period of time all M3s came with Michelin Cups (the dealer showed me the email from BMW GB). They initially came with PS2s, and now all new ones have switched back to PS2s, possibly due to wear rate and wet weather grip.

Wanted to drive the M to work today, but it was rather wet where I live, so no. Hopefully tomorrow....

I wonder whether it would be wise to get a set of more all weather capable tyres like PS2s, and save the Cups for the 'Ring next year...
