View Full Version : Lowering Advice
Whats the best setup to lower a E46 330d Sport? I want to lower it slightly BUT i dont dont want so sacrifice ride comfort.
I fitted H&R 35mm lowering springs on my old Golf GT TDI and it was alot harsher. So im sort of put off lowering cars unless i can get good ride comfort out of it.

Can recommend the Eibach Pro-Kit, nice lowered look & feel but not a harsh ride at all, and my 330d help the road really well, although I also had the Eibach ARB kit.

yeah thanks, i have also been reccomended the Eibach pro kit.
Is there a big difference between the Eibach and H&R kit as both lower around 30mm? Reason i ask is that, i had a H&R kit and the ride suffered badly whereas people say the Eibach as good ride comfort.

I have heard that the H&R are stiffer, but to be honest I never noticed any real difference between the Eibach & my M Sport suspension in regards ride comfort.

Will the Eibach springs be ok on the M sport shocks or will i need uprated/shorter shocks aswell?

Used the EIbach with my M-Sports shockies and never had any problems at all & they have lasted well.

Do lowering springs make the standard shocks wear out quicker? And whats the mileage on your car mate?

Eibach Pro-kit plus std shocks - no problem - mine was still going strong after 80K :D
Thanks, if the shocks are on the way out, what shocks would you reccomend? Shall i go aftermarket or stick to OEM M sport?

Depends what you want & budget, personnally I would stay std as they are very good shocks made by Sachs ;)

Will echo what Nickleback said, had mine on for about 25k miles and still going strong.
Actually selling my 330D at the moment as I have just bought a M3, will be advertised in BMW Car with the feature it had;) :D

i have the pro kit on my 330d, if your shocks are on the way out spend the money on a set of coilovers.

Isnt coilovers supose to be hard setup?

Isnt coilovers supose to be hard setup?
Depends on how you set it up ;)
Can you adjust the firmness of them or is it just the height?

If you set coilovers up so that the car is at its lowest possible ride height then yes it will seem harsher, because there is less rebound in the spring.I ran my 530 as low as it would go and never had any issues with the ride quality at all
