Following on my last ICE thread (http://sankeys.demon.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2530) , got some new toys today :D :D
As you all know, I got these JBL really cheap as part of a package deal. Yes, they sound cheap and look even cheaper :( :(

So to make things better, I've decided to swap them over for these babies

Quality is 10X better.....
Custom sub enclosure handcrafted by Andy [ok . Hard to imagine this piece of art work originated from the tubs of resin, planks of wood and fibreglass sheets I bought......

With twin JL Audio 12" W3 V2s mounted ;)

Wait till you see them GLOW  in the dark :D .....Will update with some more pics after sunset ;)
Big thanks to Andy of ICE COLD AUDIO for his amazing work and putting my imagination into reality, all at very reasonable cost [ok
The JL subs sound amazing compared to my old JBLs. I'm not into hard and loud bass, the JLs are just so musical........
Next up are better front components, I want to hear lyrics akin to honey drippin' from Mariah Carey's lips :p :p

Looking great mate. I thought you were going for subs with a lighter face to reflect the LEDs? Either way, it looks spot on.
Are those JBLs going cheap? Are they 10" or 12"?
I heard your old set up at SM and I thought that was a great sound, very crisp. Can only imagine how it sounds now. Nice one Nick! [ok
Shuriken.

You know you don't get a spare tyre/space saver with an M3 right?....The tyre pump goes under the passenger seat ;)
Either way mods and emergency convenience are mutually exclusive. Don't live for those moments, if it does happen, there's always a way to sort things out......and BMW Assist is one of them ;)

Very nice Nick, looking like an excellent custom install. [ok
Only downside is reduction of boot space. What about the spare wheel? Foget that, Ive read the posts above.
Good to see quality over quantity. Just don't spoil it playing Mariah Carey :D

Just don't spoil it playing Mariah Carey
Mate, with this system, tunes I enjoy the most are:
1) Sting - Fields of Gold
2) Mariah Carey - Vision of Love
3) Usher - Burn/Yeah
4) Michael Jackson - Thriller/Billie Jean
5) Dire Straight - Money for Nothing
I can listen to these tunes over and over again and each time I hear a new vocal octave, or a bass note, or an instrument I've never heard on these tunes before......
JL XR650 Csi or Diamond S600 Hex front components will bring out more magic
Then JL / amps should tidy everything up nicely :D

I have one of those subs in my boot and it rocks..so god knows what 2 sounds like!
As for amps... go for genesis profile Sub for the bass, and genesis profile 4 ultra for your components. They are awesome amps. :D
peppernick
04-07-2005, 04:28 PM
Genesis amps are good but I've got 2 options in mind already :D
JL Audio 300/4 for the components and 500/1 for the subs
or
Phoenix Gold Xenon 200.2 for the components and 600.1 for the subs
ANT MAN
04-07-2005, 08:30 PM
I've the 300/4 in my car, it's one awesome amp. Quality of workmanship is excellent and it weighs a bloody tonne :D It sounds as good as it looks too.
Btw, last year I heard a full symphony orchestra at the Tropicana in Havana. I've never heard such a rich, detailed and as near to perfection sound before or after. If you want to hear what your system can do, get a CD of a respected symphony orchestra playing popuar songs or movie soundtracks.
Listening to all the different musical instruments come in and out is a real joy :)
definately an improvement . Whats the news on the old ones? I know some people who might be in need of some budget subs [ok.

Subs are already spoken for ;) ....we should see pics shortly after Santa Pod :D

Focal :D Nice. Which ones have you gone for ? Are they a direct replacement for the OEM ones ?
Cheers

Wanted the Poly Kevlar K2P but like most Focal speakers, they are too deep. To mount them properly, you need to cut into the metal door frame.
So went for the Polyglass 165 V slims. They've got very good reviews on Fanatics (most of them swear by Focal speakers).
http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/images/var/FOCAL-POLYGLASS-165V-SLIM.jpg
All 6.5" speakers are not direct replacement of factory ones (OEM 5.25") So some hot glue-ing and clamping required.

Cheers Peppernick, May have to invest in some when I start upgrading the OEM system.
Pete :D
