Have just bought a set of auto fold OEM M3 mirrors. Upon fitting them the auto fold does not work!

To fill in the gaps... These are an upgrade from my replica M3 mirrors which I bought of Peppernick last year and they worked fine... IE...Heated / memory / autofold. On my 02/2001 325cic....However in my moment of madness I decided to go OEM....Now all the problems started

Now I have electric memory seats and fuse number 57 is there however the new oem M3's just won't fold up!

Did a couple of searches on fanatics but could not find the solution....

Thought this might be the issue.

9. OK, now for the wiring... my car is a MY2001 330ci with a 12-pin connector running my mirrors whereas I am told the MY2000 328cis and 323cis have the 6-pin connector that the E46 M3 mirrors come with. If you have a MY2000 323ci or 328ci, your job has been greatly simplified and you must now simply connect the new M3 wire harness (6-pin). If you have a 330ci do not worry, it will not be that much more difficult. Of the nine wires running to the stock 330ci mirrors, four are useless (for our purposes): blue, orange, brown, and white. The remaining wires (red, green, gray, and two black) will match up perfectly with the new M3 wires and all you have to do is expose the copper wires and simply match up the colors. Wind the two (red-red, green-green, gray-gray, and two black-black) together and use your electrical tape to mask the connection off.

Does anybody know if this is the solution?

Paul, my OEM M3 mirrors come with the 12 pin connector (I took it out last weekend to fit my door speakers). What year M3 did those mirrors come off?

Do your new mirrors come with the 6-pin plug? And if you're sure they are definitely auto folding?

They are deffinately auto folding as I stripped them down to spray.

The connector fitted in the module fine therefore I assume they are 12 pin. The mirror adjustment works and the nearside drops when putting the car in reverse....

They came off an 02 m3 coupe.

This is a real. [hmm [hmm [hmm

i was going to say. are you 100% sure they're auto folding. in the later cars, 6pin or 12 pin didn't mean shit. you could have a 12 pin connector without auto-fold as we found on Nick's clubsport.

what do you mean you stripped them down and could tell they're auto-fold? I've seen auto-fold mirror motors and non auto-fold motors. To my eye, they're identical

OK.

1) Check and see no wires are broken (somewhere along the path inside the housing)

2) If you still have your old mirrors, copy the colour sequence (If I remember correctly, there are 2 white and 2 blue wires but each goes into specific slots in the connector.) Use the wire running next to blue/white as a marker, make sure they go into the correct slots. I once reversed the white wires and the unit didn't work. Then I noticed the white wire than runs very closely to the black wire in the bunch is actually supposed to go into another slot in the connector.

3) If still no joy, try a different switch

4) If still no joy, the folding motors are dead (but very unlikely both died together)

My suspicion is No.2

I bought some M3 mirrors off a written off E46 M3 and I was told they were auto fold but upon spraying and fitting they didn't work! I sent them back and they ran tests on them and said that they were infact faulty but they definately are autofold. They knocked a substantial amount off to keep me happy!

I have e-mailed the seller to try and come to some sort of arrangement. Can you retrofit the oem motors?

He doesn't even care

Apart from the obvious excactly what are the characteristic differences between LHD and RHD?

The guy in Germany has said he will check how / why he thought they were auto fold and hopefully refund me.

Hopefully I will come out with only my wallet fleeced from the painting :D

The difference between LHD and RHD is in the base angles. They'll fit, but when you adjust the mirror to actually see anything, the mirror will be tilted to the extreme.
