Hi all,

Got my new car at the beginning of this month. This is the first chance i've had of taking some pics. Have already put almost 2k on the clock since getting it, it's great to drive. Have ordered a few bits that I will put on it and will update this thread with pics as and when. Was in the middle of changing bulbs etc before I got called away, only got the rear indicator bulbs changed.

Enough talk, pics:

Very clean car mate, glad to see you are on top of the egg yolk situation, now for some lowering springs :).

@ mike 318is: Cheers mate, it's Sterling Grey. You has PM by the way. :)

@ I know what you're saying mate, but i'm going to use up the current spring/shocks setup until they are tired and replace sometime next year hopefully when I go for a Alloys/Suspension/Exhaust upgrade. This year is Stage 1 concentrating only on cosmetics, next year Stage 2, uprating Alloys/Suspension/Exhaust/Remap. ;)

Lets see how long you stick to that plan, you will be bored one day with the credit card and end up on CA automotive or SSDD and end up ordering something. So many things to tempt you to part with the hard earned cash

@ Handler: I already did that dude. Got Teddy at SSDD to get me some 1:1 copy electric/autofold M5 mirrors. HID's should be fitted within the next week. Hamann sideskirts, Vorsteiner front bumper carbon fibre corner splitters about 6 months down the line along with a few other subtle body mods (keeping that quiet for now). ;)

Got the Superbright LED markers to change the yellow angel eyes to white. Will post before and after pics of those. Went down to the dealers armed with an M5 chassis number (thanks zarnd) and got some M5 mesh for the front bumper.

I have some Kamei eyebrows lying aside, but i'm going to get some feedback from you guys first before I put those on.

When I go for the exhaust upgrade i'll probably get a carbon fibre rear diffuser to go with a quad setup.

@ Mike 318is: I have seen a few sterling Grey E39's on the road, but hardly any with the Sport kit. I wanted a black car first of all but then realised that mods on the car would be too hard to make out. My other option was Silver and then I thought the contrast between black/silver in mods would be TOO striking. This grey is in my opinion the perfect colour for me. :)

silver is ok but a bit boring, plus you see loads of them on the road

nice choice of mods but i think the eyebrows would look a bit cack

Akuma

Yeah, that's why i'm gonna blu-tack them on and take with/without pics and post them up. I may even trim them as i'm not too keen on sacrificing headlamp output but I do want a slightly meaner look.

Handler

Lol that is a fair few selection of mods will be looking good, make sure you keep the pictures coming of your progress.

Yeah silver is common but can work to your advantage as people will just walk past and need to do a double take once they catch the subtle mods.

Watchoo tryin' say Mud?

@ zarnd: When I get the suspension upgraded I don't just wanna go for a straight-up lowering kit. The problem is, with it being the "family car" it has to traverse city streets and multi-storey car parks etc...

I'm going to need a suspension kit that will allow me to raise and lower the car (mainly the front) from within the car. I was in Central Manchester last week and coming out of a car park. The steep slope exiting the car park was fricking ridiculous. The car didn't scrape but did make me think, what if I had a lowered car?

Anyway, that's a problem to address nearer the time.

Here's my old 528 with upper and lower eyebrows

http://www.evilbeemer.com/images/eyebrows.jpg

....had the lower ones on for ages, and always liked them. Upper ones only stayed on a couple of weeks as I thought the car looked like it was squinting.

I had genuine ACS mirrors on my car, might be worth looking for reps, as they are a bit different from the same old M5 ears?

Akuma

@ Scorcher: I really liked your car a lot, I would have got ACS mirrors but I feel that M5 ones suit the car better. Regarding eyebrows: I'm the opposite to you, I like the upper ones as opposed to the lower ones.

Eyebrows seem to give the car a much meaner look:

No offense dude but i agree with scorcher. Eyebrows are a bit old hat IMO. If you like the mod tho you should do it, it's your car after all. Other than the eyebrows i like the sound of everything else and the carbon will work really well with that colour. E39 is a fantastic motor. Had a 528 sport and it couldn't be beaten for comfort with sporty looks.

Installed the Superbright LED Markers today. The pics were taken during full daylight so they aren't so vivid, will take some more later on tonight when they can be more visible, but I would recommend them to anyone not too keen on opening up a headlamp unit to fit CCFL's (although they are brighter without question).

Also put on the eyebrows to see what they'd look like and i'm not as impressed with them as I thought I would be. May decide not to use them after all.

Might have the M5 mesh fitted on Saturday and the HID's installed by Sunday/Monday.

More pics:

My good friend Sebastian who works at Halfords helping me fit the front indicator bulbs, really tight space:

Also im not too sure about the eyebrows anymore. Anyway, would you like a chassis number of an E92 for that shark fin?

A quick crap Photoshop of the eyebrows colour coded. They look slightly better but unless someone can do a better P/Chop for me, i'm probably gonna go without:

I suppose you're right, I had them on my E36 and they made it look meaner than a mofo but on the E39 they seem to take away some of the classiness of the car. Ah well, maybe try again when i have some CF bits on it.
