Finally joined the E46 M3 owners, purchased my new car on Saturday after much hunting around for one. shes a 2001 E46 M3 in Black (not sure which I have to look) 19" wheels and black leather interior. Im well happy and it means we can now start with the great fun of Modifiying :D
Will get some pics up soon because its still in England getting a few bits done before I pick it up (have to wait till sat :( )
Will keep you guys posted but we are going to try and get it finished, engine and chassis wise before the tuner grand prix at Donny so in the next few weeks I may do a little technical bit as we fit the new parts so if anyone is fitting similar parts they know whats involved and have a refrence if thats ok with everyone.
On the list so far we have:
Acitve Autowerks SC kit
Stoptech BB conversion front and rear
Bilistien PSS9 coilovers
Strut Braces
Antiroll Bars
Pulleys
Exhaust
And a few other surprises ;)
stay tuned as the project unfolds ;)

Lucky man, awesome car!!!! You sold the vert in your sig?? [cool
AlpinaAl
28-06-2005, 10:59 AM
The vert in my sig is a customers car that we built, i really like the doors etc so thought I use it in my sig (bit more intresting than my Alpina)
The exhaust will be our new Titanium system Lee, we have seen very positive results with it, plus its light weight which will fit with the final theme of the car that I am aiming for.

If i finally sort my insurance ill take a look at one of those. But would it be too loud on a vert?

Ahhhh another carbon creamer. ;) Next best choice if you can't find a white one, champion stuff dude. :)
Maybe I have the answer for the exhaust audition... I'll drive down, Lee can sit in my car, you can tow us for a few miles so he can listen to it. :p
PS: Mits, your car's a winner, leave it alone lol, don't even polish it or clean it unless it's 5 minutes before a show, stick to your winning formula. :D

Just going back to the Supercharger install, what version of the software will you be using, as everyone who has the AA kit for the E46 has software problems, i dont think there is any quick fix for it. Wont AMD have to start from scratch?
AlpinaAl
30-06-2005, 02:03 PM
Yer spoke to AmD yesterday about it and they said that once they have the base map from AA then they have somewere to start from. If all else fails
I will probably go for a Motec stand alone unit. A bit pricey but well worth it, plus it offers a host of other features and hey I like gadgets :D
AMD have stopped mapping BMW's now I'm led to believe, there's a guy on BM3W who went to them and they just couldn't map it, problems with it on their dyno. They gave him a full refund in the end and said sorry, good sports [ok
Also the bloke they used as a M3 test donkey, John Thorne, doesn't help them out any more. But I guess if you guys are working with them then it equals itself out, right?
But with their past unsuccessfull attempts at mapping M3's are you confident they can provide the goods to Active Autowerkes standards?

Im going to maxpower with John over the weekend.Ill speak to him about it. Im 100% sure hes still involved though. Especially with his mad Vx220.
Is this not the issue of trying to dyno an M3? Isnt there a long procedure to disable the DCS fully, and that it doesnt always work. Maybe thats the reason? Not actually there mapping skills.
A guy on here had his 330 mapped a month or so ago.
AlpinaAl
30-06-2005, 02:42 PM
yer the DSC is the main problem with the doing it, they think that they should be able to map direct to the DME but if not I will just get a Motec unit as I dont have to worry about a lot of stuff..
From speaking to Adam yesterday for about an hour it seems like it is possible so we will try, also I belive that they are still associated with John in someway as he was chatting about his VX220 yesterday ut I was to busy thinking "i need this and this and that" to pay much attention..
My mates M3 runs Motec stand alone (not sure which) but is runs like a deamon and also he didnt have any trouble mapping it
Taken from the BM3W thread, titled "AmD unable to re-map my car"
Due to various issues I am no longer associated with AmD. We had various issues getting round the RR limiter when we developed the map on my car but recently I've noticed that people are complaining that the rev limit is actually removed, IMO this is a massive no no (I dont see the need to increase the rev limit either, theirs no more power up there without the inherent risk to the engine).
I personally have no experience with AmD so all I have to go on is what I read. But thats the idea of these forums isn't it, to help everyone out.

You don't want to up the rev limiter on a S/Ced car. AA dropped the red line from 8200 to 7600RPM.
AlpinaAl
30-06-2005, 03:01 PM
Absolutly mate and please my respones was in no way ment to offend, I must admit I wasnt really listing when Adam was talking about John yesterday.
You are correct this forum is about helping each other in a common goal "the love of moddified cars" I do appreciate any advice that someone can offer with regards to mapping this car, as its the first one in the UK we belive to be supercharged the mapping I think will be the biggest headache.. hense if anyone can suggest a good mapper then I will very much appreciate it.
Sorry if I seemed a bit off mate
lee330sport
30-06-2005, 03:04 PM
Yeah, the've had a lot of trouble in the past when they started leading onto other marques, away from audi/porsche.
I had the first VX map from them in my Zafira and it did have a few niggles but were quickly sorted without any charges.
Maybe its the same with the bm's, not enough experiance with them. But as Alex's is a single one-off project they might be able to do more for him. Wouldnt get rid of the rev limiter though:eek:
Hey Alex, I in no way thought you were being off at all mate. None whatsoever, actually yes I did I WANT DISCOUNT!! :D [crackmeup
Cheers buddy. [ok

Al, congrats mate. Know how it feels as I'm picking mine up on Sat as well.
Just out of interest, are you referring to changing the S/C pulleys or the std engine ones? If the std ones, then do you know what difference will it make upgrading them on a std n/a engine?
Cheers.

'Power pulleys' reduce the strain on the engine as the engine drives the alternator and the water pump. Changing the pulleys reduces the drive ratio and hence, the crack spins with more leaverage. Overall, they allow the engine to spool up quicker. I've tried it on Teddy's M3 and I can feel the difference.
However, depending on the design of the pulley, sometimes the harmonic damper found on OEM pulleys is removed in order to mount the aftermarket pulley. This may not be so good.
Good bit of info here (http://dinancars.com/whitepapersFile.asp?ID=5)

Feckin' Nora, techno lunchtime overload. So, the upshot is less energy is lost therefore more is added to "turning the wheels" but, you might be OK or you might be fucked!
Hmmmm, best to leave to the serious boys me thinks.
