Went shopping for some retail therapy after a crap day. parked in the multistory.
came back got in and drove off... coming down through the layers of the multistory in 2nd and there is a clunk and the SMG light comes on. Stupidly i decide to stop where i would be blocking traffic... as there is nothing behind me at this point. Figured id just try turning on and off and it would be all better.... oh no.. AS it thinks its still in gear it wont re start. After lots of beeping horns when the cars do arrive behind me i manage to get it to select Neutral after several attempts and some kind passers by help me push it out the way.
I leave it 5 mins and try again, it starts, selects first and i move off... as i go for 2nd it goes funny again and shows 1st on the dash but wont give any drive.
Manage to swing it to the side and get it out the way.
phone BMW® assits and 4 hrs later im finally home and the car is in a storage depo and will be taken to elms cambridge tomorrow morning.
At least its under warranty
Its already had the following items replaced while chasing a knock and its actually booked in for mon-wed this coming week for further diagnosis on the knock... now they can play with the gear box aswell
rear spring
rear top mounts
RTABs
Differential
O/S drive shaft
I hope it isnt out of action for long!
Would they have gone near the gear box when changing the diff?
I have done a couple of hundred miles since picking it up from the dealer so i doubt its anything they did.
