Hi guys, thought if finally sign up and say hi.
Ive been driving a remapped 330d sport auto for the last 2 years and been saving for a m3!
The time has finally come!! BUT! insurance is shafting me at quotes of £5k+
Does anybody have specialists who will insure me?
im 20 with 3 years NCB.
Also what would be the key factors to look for in a m3. im aware the running in service is one of them
im after a vert with less than 40k on in manual.
Cheers

Hi M3-AQ, Welcome to the forum, i,m sure you will enjoy it here :D
20, and a ///M3  the youth of today  . As you said service is a pain in the rear but thats the price you have to pay I'm afraid. The only other thing you may come across is tyres they don.t come to cheep ether.
The thing you do need to watch is "TEDDY" ;) :D and the mad modders on this forum, they will rape your wallet :D in a good way that is.
Anyway hope you do enjoy it here, and lets have some pic's of your car mate.
Welcome aboard. Sure you'll enjoy yourself here.
As for insurance, give A-Plan a try (01635874646), have always been very good on price.

Hi mate, welcome to the forum.
When I was 20 (with 0 NCB) I had a 318 and I got quoted £3k. When I changed my slough postcode to a cambridge one, all other details being the same it dropped it to £1.4k !! Less than half! Conclusion? Where you live matters JUST as much as your age!
Welsome insurance will depend on the area, someone i know had a 330 and paid very little i pay nearly 3 times as much living in Harrow driving a 318

welcome to the nut house.... bruv.... just get ready to have your wallet... battered....
lol
Welcome mate, M3 at the tender age of 20! Lucky you :p
Really good community we have here, we're all friendly and happy to help when we can.
Be prepared for some serious spending on mods, especially on the M3 :p There are some excellent examples here.

welcome to the forum
I don't think you'll find many insurers willing to quote you happy if you are only 20 and driving a group 20 car. why not get insurance under your parent's name there are companies offering named driver their own NCB too.
make sure the car has the 1200 run in service and full service history. suspension is the weakest point on the E46 take it out for a drive and listen to knocking noises front and rear. other than that should be fine.
then just call me for any modding needs :D

All I can say is good luck on the insurance front im 24 with 4 years no claims and im paying not shy of what you were getting quoted. Until your 21/22 I think you'll be pushed to find a company to cover you. Most of them laughed at me. For the record though elephant or prestige who im with are good. Best of luck

thanks guys for the welcome
i will try ringing a plan shortly
i dont mind paying up to £2,500 as it is a group 20 car but im getting quotes of 5k+!
i have seen a few examples but either the leather was to worn, some funny knocking noises or the running in service had not been done on time....
il try changing my postcode to another area but i was paying 800 on the 330d
teddy-ive used you before for some minor things such as xenon look bulbs, rear leds and some cf badges
cheers:D

will keep searching!
Do you reckon trade insurance will solve the problem?

traders insurance will most likely restrict the engine size, or it will state that it does not cover performance cars. Even then you may be asked to prove how you are in the trade etc..and what stock you have sold.
I think you will be extremely lucky to get insurance under £3.5k at your age on an M3.
If you are only prepared to pay a certain amount for insurance, then maybe the car is not for you yet. Are you willing to pay about £1,000 for an inspection service on it at BMW for example?
I'm 24 and renewed my M5 insurance at the end of March for £1400. I have six points for speeding, and 4 years no claims on that policy. I put my mum down as one of the named drivers and it immediately knocked £1,000 off premiums that i was being quoted. Try Bell.co.uk that's who i am with, and i played around with their flexibell policy and knocked things like courtesy cars off the prmium as i have another car and it worked out ok for my age, points and what the car is!
They are fantastic cars, can be expensive to run and put a massive smile on your face.
cheers and welcome along.

I was 26 when i got my M3, but i had owned my own car for 2 years but been driving since i was 17 with no pionts etc.
Admiral quoted me about 1500, with 2 NCB and having my mum as a named driver dropped premium by 500. But with admiral you will need to pay in full, otherwise monthly payments increase the premium by a huge amount.

i dont mind paying for the services, ive been running my 330d for the last 2 years and its all been dealer serviced and repaired.
Have had to fork out for new turbo, cats.... and what not!
after having a look around, i got a quote for 2600 when im 21 but thats not till march!!
will try bell, i dont have any points, have had a license since i was 17 and will have 4 years NCB in march!

id say wait till march then mate. the prices of the m3 will go down, and you have a long time to look for the perfect example! you could even start buying mods for it now, ready for when you buy your car :)
ther is a lot of stuff to research on the m3. it would take you awhile to read everything about it anyways, and by that time im sure you will find the perfect colour combo thats right for you! :D

Welcome to the forum mate. I don't want to burst your bubble but I suspect you are gonna find it borderline impossible to get covered. You may find someone willing to take you on as a named driver but even then...
Have you got any quotes from confused.com and/or moneysupermarket.com??
I would say that Endsleigh, Elephant, Bell, Mint and Zenith are prob your best bet. I had a nightmare getting cover as well. Paying over 2k as a named driver. At 25 with a DD40, companies aren't exactly throwing themselves at me! :p
May the force be with you in your quest! :D

Bell seem to be pretty good for young drivers with powerful cars and points don't necessarily matter

quote line direct are returning some nice quotes through gocompare.com
1700 with my mum on the policy on a 54 vert when i hit 21!!
That is a bargain price, I'd happily pay that for a m3 vert. Is that for 10 or 12 months?
