I finally bought a Gruppe M induction kit for my M3 at the weekend. I wasn't over impressed with the quality of the main housing, so I have mad a few minor mods. The original is the one with the Blue Samco hose, and numerous Jubilee clips.

have u only got a mesh that replaces the cone filter thingy? i think leaving it silver looks much better than black:)

That's an awesome bit of customising dude. Did you do that yourself or get it fabricated professionally? I would leave it silver personally.

The cone filter is still in there. It's just a much tidier installation. The mesh that you see in the tube is the secondary gauze.
This is the full E46 M3 jobbie, but you can't see the other parts.
Yes Fas. I did it myself.

[cool [cool ...Ian your handywork is awesome!
I would just remove the mesh and run it straight through. I have a Ground Control Gizmo on my Typhoon set up at the moment but no mesh on either side of the MAF. Worked well on my 330 and works well on my M3 :D
Maximum airflow ;)
The MAF sensor is so sensitive that by increasing the air flow across the filament slightly, you can feel the extra urge in the engine. Especially during initial throttling.
This was the MAF housing on my 330 ;)

Nick
Have you removed just the mesh, or the whole plastic cartridge?

Both ;) ...Check the added pics above
The Gizmo helps straighten out airflow across the MAF sensor. Without it, you can get inconsistent readings.

I want to keep the plastic cartridge in, but I may pull the wire off. I will wait until I can find another spare one, just in case I need it for the warranty.
I don't think they would approve of having no secondary protection.

For any warranty work, the GruppeM comes off anyway. As long as you have original parts to go back temporarily, should be fine.
Thats some great machine work and i would leave it as is and stay away form the black, but thats just me..
