One obvious reason might be because your autobox is changing gears quicker at lower revs? I was in Mizon's car (325Ci manual + cf cai) and i don't think it 'roared' as much as the one in the vid. instead of the meaty 'roar', my PiperX makes an inverted 'shoooosh' noise, very hard to explain in writing

The BMW Straight 6 has such a distinctive sound to it, love it! This video clip is what mine sounds like (http://lunchin.shackspace.com/GLI_GHL2.wmv) for comparison. Test driving another 330CI CS tomorrow though don't worry :)

Auto does tend to make the car sound more restrained as the gear changers are much more linear IMO?

With a steppy, you can't hold on to a gear long to hear the induction unless you put it in manual overdrive. It should sound very similar. You'll also noticed that the engine software on a steppy car won't allow the revs to pick up as quickly as that on a manual, so blipping the throttle has less effect of the induction roar.

However, the is the mother of all BMW induction noise (http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~ephome1/CSLROAR.mp3) :D :D

the car does barf when I blip tho. 97k miles - think the engine has loosened up. Get loads of hissing low down, then barfing at 2k upwards. Throttle response even low down in the rev range is good.
