View Full Version : How low can you go? ....in London
I don't know how you guys do it! Been driving in the 330 sport for the past few days and I have to go over the speed bumps ever so slowly, scrapped on a hump yesterday and was not even going that fast, maybe 20 mph. Now the max I go over humps is 20 mph, slower if I think they are extra high!
So how do you other Londoners drive around with a lowered car when there are so many speed bumps around? A trip to my friend's house use to take less than 5 minutes, but now due to the number of speed bumps on that route it takes much longer.
Just wanted to ask too, is the sport lower than a non sport?

The trick is do about 55-60 hit the middle of the hump and you clear it completely :D
Lol, J you will have to show me that trick sometime in your M.

Hmm, depending on what kind of road and humps these are, I would have thought that even 20mph is a bit quick!

20mph:eek: YOOO dude slow down don't you think thats a bit too fast over a speed hump. i would have thought 10mph was fast enough especially in a 330. i drive about 5mph the most and mine is runnin on stock m sport set up. you need to slow down

Never really check the speedo, but I do slow down before going over speed humps.
hmmm it's probably not 20 mph then, probably 15 mph or so, it really is slow though, I don't feel that I'm speeding over them, more of a crawling speed.
Going over them at 5/6 mph! That would be too frustrating around where I live, it would just take forever to get down a road.
On my e36 I used to have GT corner splitters:

With the splitters on I had to really slow down for the speed humps, the 330 feels as low as this and I go as slow as I did with the splitters on, but it doesn't look that low.

You've got to remember, you shouldn't press down firmly on the brakes just as your approaching the hump as the front end nose dives down. Instead brake well in advance and slowly coast over the hump...

I have Bilstein sports Shocks and Eibach springs on my E36 and have a gentle bump 10 yards from my house one way and two the other way. :(
Luckily they are close as when I approach them I am usually not doing more than 5-10mph.
The ones I hate are the ones with the gaps in the middle, I never know whether to straddle one, or straddle the gap or go half on one and the other wheel down the gap.
Before I had the car lowered I would slow down for the humps but now I find I have to slow down even more.

i just drive very slow over speed bumps, under 10mph. Vary slightly depending on how big they are, but as long as you go slow enough for the front suspension to react in time you shouldn't rub.
I'm running on Eibach pro and with my splitter I still don't rub over humps, only time i touched was in a car park on very awkward steep decline.
I have taken a hump at 30mph all the time and they are high just the way you angle it it never scrapes
Checked the speed today on the way to work and it's not 20 mph I go over them lol, its actually just under 10 mph! I must have got that 20 mph figure while I was braking.
So if you have to go that slow with a standard sport set up, do you have to go even slower if it's lowered?

I was gonna say, cos if youre doing 20mph over a speed bump in a 330 sport, your plain nuts.
We got some round here too, not sure how they compare to yours in London, but the ones over here look like the guys who put them in were having a contest to see who could build the highest one.
I nearly stop and roll up and then down again, sometimes even with the wheels at an angle, people behind me love it, H&R springs now, cant wait for KWs to get back to my old habits.

This is my old car which was very low. Front splitter was about 5 cm off the ground:

Best thing to do would be to take the humps very slow. I used to do about 5mph and managed to get over them. Scraped the underside but no damage to the front. Also avoid side roads in london. Stick to main roads as much as possible. The above splitter lasted the best part of a year and then I foolishly hit a speed hump and 25-30ish because I didnt see it and managed to rip half of the splitter off.
