Hi all [hiya
recently I noticed that when I'm coasting at about 15-20mph, I can hear the brake sticking a bit. This noise will go away as soon as I accelerate or tap on my brake. What exact do I need to do to get rid of this? Do I need to take the brakes apart and push the pistons right back? [hmm

Pistons may just need a little bit of lube, worth having a peek to make sure everything's free and mobile if you get half an hour to spare.

Yep, lube piston and make sure the pad moves freely inside the caliper housing. Also, copper grease the back of your brake pads (where it clips onto the piston).

Yeah, just sorted the same problem myself. Just a good old fasioned clean-down of pads etc sorted it right out. Take any rough edges off the pads and as P'nick (not the sandwich and tea variety) said, the addition of some copper grease will do the job.

nice one guys, will have to spend ages trying to get the damn guide bolts out again (the last time I did this, I broke my wrench and hit my head on the wheel arch)

I have got similar issues at the mo...

I have noticed a knocking sound when I brake which sounds like it is coming from the nearside wheel. It is intermittant and only seems to happen when using the brake. It alsmost sounds like I have driven over a small man hole cover. IE: When depressing the brake to slow down the car will virtually be at a stop and then I get the small man hole cover noise.

Any ideas?????

Could be the piston sticking slightly, then as you ease up the pressure to stop it clunks as it goes past the pressure point, or more likely a sticky pad that's grabbing as the disc slows almost to a stop. Could be anything really Hapry, I've had people say the same thing and they'd lost both the pins on one of the pads and it was flapping about (you'd usually hear that at any speed though, so don't panic it probably isn't that hehe).

Probably best to start with the same advice above and then work from there. If it happens when the wheel is moving slowly, you may be able to walk beside the car while someone brakes and see if you can trace it to a specific area, then maybe spin the hub with the wheel off and see if you can spot the offending item.

I must confess to finding the same last night myself Paul. Gave the car a rare coshing on the way home cos I was in a frisky mood, and by the time I got to the house the brakes were bloody awful. :( Not impressed if this is a 'feature' of the M3 in general, if so it really lets the car down. Plus it means I gotta BBK to sort them, oh dear, another mod, shame... :p

Mine stick slightly too, can hear it while coasting at around 15mph!

I have to say, my brakes are pretty lame for the car they're on! I was racing a friend (on a private road of course) and after about 7 miles, mine gave in totally. Pedal hit the floor and brakes started smoking!
Now I use the engine for braking!

Got the same problem with my brakes, stick on /rub at anything below 20 mph.
If anyone does this fix, can they let us know if it works ?

get some grease and lubricate the piston housing, caliper guides (where the pads move back/forth) and back of pads for good measure. if the pedal travels too much (spongy) then u may have to bleed your brakes too. I'm going to try and do mine this w/e
