Alreet fellas!! Just a quick one really but i'm sick of doing 40MPH on crowded A roads, paying £1.27 a litre, trying to get fuel economy out of 350 BHP beast and only getting 23MPG for my troubles so i'm selling beloved Pheonix Yellow M3 and getting a nice grown up 4 door oil burner!! Only question is what to go for?? So far my options are

E60 5 Series
Merc C Class
Audi A4/A6

Having driven none of them i'm open to suggestions and buying tips!! Obviously I still love my cars so it will be modded, all show and no go mind you and more than likely a 2 or 2.5Ltr!!!

Thanks in advance!!

Personally Merc would give you the best comfort, and 5 series is a more grown up car, but the diesel on A4...if you can strech to the new style one, i think they offer the most equipment for your money (even the LED R8 lights),

and performance wise....why not try the 3.0 TDI quattro A4, on paper 0-60 5.9sec....and 6.0sec for the 3.2 petrol.....it is suggestion something....imagine getting it remap....at least extra 30-40 bhp....you could be looking at a comfortable 5.5sec.....not sure how this is compare to 335d, but hey...awd for UK's wet....

A4. Not the BEST economy for a Derg, but the best looking car out of the 3 you mentioned, easilly.

My personal choice though would be an E92 325d or similar

I'd go for an E60 530d sport, in black or grey. Slap some nice fat rims on and give it a bit of a drop, and there arent many more imposing looking cars of its ilk on the road imo. Performance is great, spacious, and its good on fuel.

the new merc sport would be my choice :) I would only look at the 320 as the 2L has no power at all :(

Due to it being a narrowboat with wheels :D :D

Cheers for the replys gents!! I've been to look at a few and i've fallen for the e60 5 series probably a 525!! Strange how much better looking a car becomes when you're going to by one!! ;)

Bye Bye from the M

What about the Audi A8 4.2 TDI?

car seems a beast with a diesel twin turbo V8. just out of curiosity i was looking at one the other day and the specs are impressive. 323 bhp, 650 Nm, 0-60 5.7 and it still manages 30 mpg (urban driving)

imagine that with a remap....

Make sure it is an Efficint Dynamics model or be prepared to be very diapointed with the economy. They came in in March 07 and have the joystick style gear shift.

Pre ED 525d will get around 28mpg if you get 23mpg from your M3, or a manual will see about 32mpg.
Post ED cars will see 34mpg and 40mpg respectively.

Only reason I am mentioning this is I sold my 335i and bought an ED 320d sport touring and even with its 40-55mpg diesel now costing 20p more I am sort of thinking I would have been better off buying a slightly older M3, even though fuel would still be £100 a month more for me the overall running costs would be the same, and a diesel is still fekin' boring to drive compared with an M3.

I think or the narrow price difference between a 525d & 530d is minimal compared to the price of the car. I think a 530d being a flagship engine would be a better choice and as far as I am aware ther are mods available. however I may be wrong!. best of luck hunting though.
