Read this on another forum. Useful for those planning to drive into German cities.

12 cities in Germany are now defined as "low pollution zones", and older/high emission vehicles are no longer allowed into them. If you drive through in a newer/better vehicle without a windscreen sticker showing the emissions category you are liable for a 40 Euro on-the-spot fine (as the scheme is new this is being enforced quite hard at the moment). This applies to ALL vehicles, including tourists/visitors, and more cities are coming into the scheme all the time ... current list here:

More general info. (in English):

All you have to do is produce your V5 at the equivalent of an MOT station, you get your disc for 6 Euros. This covers all cities and lasts for the lifetime of the vehicle. If you're going to a hotel, many will sort out a disc for you if you ask. Otherwise you will need to do it yourself, there are various companies on the internet but obviously they charge for their services.

interesting to know. At the moment does this affect us going to the 'Ring and staying there? If it doesn't now, it probably will in the future

cheers

It doesn't. But if you drive into certain German cities, then yes.

There's an MOT place in Bad Nuerhar. I'll get one this upcoming trip anyway as it will be problem solved knowing such legislation will only expand. All you need to do is just show them your V5 and pay 6 Euro.

it probably will do in the future though! Might stop into Bad Neurhar on the way in June and get one as well, going to be going to Germany a fair bit this year!

cheers
