This is something that ive had a search for but cant find much on, so for all you people who have fitted CSL bootlids to m3's what did you do about the soft touch boot opening button above the number plate?

I picked up my new acquired boot from Davidch last night (cheers dude) and I started looking at it I noticed that there is no hole for the button to open the boot from the outside. How does this affect the wiring when the CSL boot is fitted, is the wiring plug for the soft touch button just left dangling in the boot lining and is the only way to open the boot with the key fob?

yep OEM csl boots are only key fob... as far as i can remember.. i think the reps like Vorsteiner have the ones were they keep the numberplate light trim which include the soft touch button.

Yep open my bootlid from the key fob, but on my csl I also have a button near the drivers footwell to open the bootlid.
Maybe you can have some kind of button fiited inside the car.

Only the Vert VCSL bootlid uses the handle, if you would buy the coupe bootlid it doesnt use the handle and you loose the sof touch button.

Really so CSLs have the bootlid release button in like in the US? I so wanna have that as it would make it a lot easier, as right now I have to turn the car off to open the bootlid if say my gf wants to get something out whilst just quickly dropping her off.

You could take the oem handle appart and custom fit the mechanism in the recess.

Ive seen people in the US have used the e39 mechanism as that screws onto the bootlid from the inside and its similar.

Also one guy managed to fit the smallest part of the button in one of the license plate lights.

that sounds like a lot of work to be fair to take it all apart and find somwhere to mount the button, I do like the idea of having the release button inside the cabin, wonder how much work that involves!!

on a bit of a side note and jacking my own thread ive just fitted my black side grills but i trimmed a bit too much off one of the stick on m3 badges so I thought Id get a couple of new one from BMW.

TWENTY QUID plus the VAT for the stick on badges, god knows how much the actual grill costs!!!

Thats nothing, CSL badges on the side grill ....£100:D

It would be more convenient to get a button mounted...usefull when the cars on as I dont think the key fob works if its in the ignition.

ive had all the footwell apart when I tried to find a way of running speaker wiring into the doors and there didnt appear to be any wiring plugs unused. Had a look on realoem.com last night and that didnt help much either.

Does anyone have any wiring diagrams they could email me? I might give parts dept a call later and find out what bits I need

Ok the part number for the internal boot release switch if anyone is interested is 61 31 836 5579 and is £19.83 + VAT from BMW (its no cheaper from Germany or the US either)

Just need to look at the wiring now and extend the soft touch button wiring on the bootlid back down to the button in the car.

Hi Everyone, I'm new to the forum.

I have recently fitted a Genuine CSL bootlid to my M3 and am having the same problems with the boot.

Keep us updated on how you get on with the switch.

Thanks Andrew

HI mate and welcome.

dont forget to post in the main forum and introduce yourself with some pics as well.

A lot of guys in the states have added the soft touch button from an e39 5 series into the csl bootlid but I dont want to be cutting the carbon fibre.

will let you know how i get on with the wiring
