As you know I'm probably going to be looking for a new car soon. I probably won't be in a position to choose any particular details about the car but there seems to be quite a few E36s about at the moment. So, a couple of questions 'cos I'm curious:

1. What colour do you thing E36s look best in?
2. What is your first thought when you see a white E36, honestly?

Cheers guys :)

I've only ever seen a white E36 once (respray i think-but dont know) and it simply does not have the presence that the white E46 has, but that might be because i've only seen a white M3 E46!

I know its old skool but bright red E36 looks gorgeous!

Colour is a really subjective thing. I had a few E36s, most of them different colours to the one I'd had before, and I still think my Boston Green 328 vert was the tops. I'd be tempted to try and stay slightly different and keep away from silver and black, they look good but don't stand out from the crowd like you'd want to with a 36 (unless they've got some serious paint-loving happening like Benny's). I must be slightly old skool aswell cos I think a well looked-after red 36 is also very pleasing on the eye..

White 36. Honestly? I think 'chav' immediately when I picture it. Let me qualify that. It's not that I don't like it, quite the opposite, it's just that almost every white 36 you see (and that's not many) has been w*nkered with limo tints, Lexus lights and a 4-by-2 spoiler on the boot. IF you can find a clean one and do it tastefully, I'd give it a go and show your game dude, like a lot of things it's not about what you think of the stock car, it's what you're gonna bring to the table and add to it yourself. ;) A good condition white 36 is a great canvas to start a painting with. If you've found a good one, I'd say go for it, no shortage of love here for white 3ers hehe.

Last time that I was going to Roys I saw a white E36 M3 in Poole, I was going around the roundabout he was sat there waiting to go, It looked blooming stunning, and was the main reason that I want a white E46 M3

Gave him the thumbs up which he did as well, wish I could of stopped to have a good look at it

Agree with Chaos on this one. For E36, my fav is Boston Green with tan leather and full sports kit (inc BBS wheels)!!!

Im with Chaos on this one, white is a no go unless its a nice, clean, fresh one.

I also like Techno Violet, i think they do that on an E36 not sure.

Thanks for your input guys. I was mulling over the idea of a white e36 at work last night and out of pure co-incidence I was cut up by a chav in a white e36 on the way home. I was already leaning towards what Chaos said about white e36s and chavs and I think that has confirmed it. If I got a clean one, whatever I do to it, would just look like I've chav'ed it up, so I think white is out of the question.

Techno violet is gorgeous but about as rare as unstained pants in my old car :o so I doubt I will be that lucky.

Estoril is nice, although there are quite a few e46s in estoril, you don't see many e36s and that would be nice. Again, I doubt one will turn up.

I probably won't have a chance to pick a colour anyway, but I just wondered what you guys thought. If possible I am going to get something a bit different, the silver is a bit too common, I want something a bit special.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts, we will have to wait and see what turns up. :)

You just don't see E36s in estoril :(

Especially on 316s and within my price range..

What sorta budget you working on bro? And you after a 316 specifically or just a 4-pot in general? I've got one or two people who deal a LOT in cars and can ask them to keep an eye out (PM me if you're interested but wanna keep it low pro).

I think 2k is my limit. As for what engine, I don't know how the insurance will play out for a 318, so I will probably stick to 316s at the moment.

Going to have to get insurance quotes for them both given the new claim record and everything - I do have Pass+ now though - woohoo, lol.

I've got a green 46 and I never liked green before. You don't see many of them and it does look nice IMO. I think the 36's looked nice in it too.

Yeah, green was by no means my first choice but my old car was lagoon green (as you can tell from my sig) and quite a few people commented on how nice it was. I certainly grew to like it.

Afif, cheers, doing it in a fiesta was jolly good fun. :D

Estoril was never offered as an individual colour option for the E36, it was purely reserved for the Ms. I know there are a few E46s with it now but in my 7 months of owning mine I can count on one hand the amount I have seen on the road. Could you not buy an E36 with dodgy paint, not minging with rust but something that needs refreshing, obviously reflected in the price. The standard reds seem to go a bit flat over about 8 years old so maybe go for that, but making sure it is mechanically sound and your first mod be getting it painted estoril - go on, you know you want to ;)

More of a common sight e46 wise but just imagine it on your e36

Yeah im ok, a nice shinner and a gash across my eyebrow/eye socket other than that i jumped out fine and she was still running after the impact.

I hit a 1ft square 6/8ft tall Oak gatepost and a smallish tree @ 25-30mph to cause the front damage.

more pics are here clicky (http://www.e36coupe.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=38779)

Holy shit, your car was a fine example too! Glad you're alright, watch out for whiplash and the like cropping up later down the line.

Looks like we're both in the same boat mate!

The fern green is nice as well and as for respraying an e36 estoril, thats about as feasible as me finding a 3 legged antelope in Tesco's..nice idea though!

I think that is the same colour as my E46. Very nice when it is clean and I thought it was supposed to be black or white cars that were hard to keep clean!!
