..hmmm [hmm
I need to top up my oil but I don't know what oil is in the car since i've only had it a few weeks [hmm
I asked a chap at a local car shop and he said that my X-reg 325 CI Sport needed 0-30 oil, can anybody confirm this? I can't bloody find any references to what oil to use in teh manual

i think your manual should say that it recommends synth oil (5-30, 0-40) that meets ACEA A3 standards...

I am supplying my own oil for my cars first service on monday, $tealer wants £180 for changing the oil and microfilter and I was told that the labour charge is just £35, microfilter is approx £25 so that is one hell of an expensive oil change, anyway, I digress, I asked the robbing buggers what oil to get and they have said Castrol SLX 0W-30. BP sell the stuff at £40 for a 4 litre can or £12.99 for a 1 litre bottle.

Wow, you're getting bummed big time! Go to Halfords and they're doing buy 1 get 1 free offer on Halfords full synth oil (30quid for 10 litres). Oil filter only costs 3.60 or there abouts from ECP or GSF...If you car is very new and you need FSH then u may have to get bummed this time, but if this oil change is a mid-service interval then DIY it as it's very easy (I change my oil every 6k).

Car is only six months old so I have to get shafted, BUT, I brought the first 5 litres of oil on my company fuel card  (bit naughty but who cares) and the other two from my own pocket so should be a very cheap service for me now :D .

As long as oil meets/exceeds the standards set, it ain't gonna melt your engine. It's the same argument with using BMW Long Life coolant. Don't know where you get this idea of Halfords oil = shit unless your previous car had an engine meltdown because of Halfords oil [hmm It's better to change oil frequently using Halfords full synth oil, than changing oil once a year using Castrol

the castrol oil has anti ware additves i found that castrol made my engine quiter if i was doing a oil change on a 1.1 fiesta i would go for halfords but on new car i would use castrol or mobil 1 nothing compares to it i think its best on the market by far but everbody has there own point of view
