Did you cover exactly half of the ring? I.e. the back half? Seems that there's a big reduction in reflection, but still not a "perfect" light. Good job though :)

I prefer it without the tape mod, the rings are more prominent.
damn i covered just under half on average.... i assumed aslong as the inner tube was covered it would be ok [bang.
mista the reason im doing it is because without the tape mod at a distance you cant really notice the halo's ;). Especially if you have your lights low beam on aswell.

Doc Matt has gen 1's without the tape mod and when I met him the other day and saw him coming towards me, he was about 75 metres away from me, beleive me mate they were very very sharp. the tape mod looks as if it's pushing out too much light forward making it bluury. I thought the whole idea of halo's was just for posing ;) and not to light up the road..
Post some pics when you've had another crack, i'm very interested in finding out what a difference it's going to make.

Definately looks better Afif, the best way of doing it is just la...wait, I've got a template on Photoshop for E36 halos, E46s are the same size aren't they? If they are I'll send you the file.
All you have to do though, is draw round them with a pencil, when doing it you think its too much, but it works out at perfectly half. Burnish it down with a spoon a la Estoril Sport and you're sorted! :)

I noticed on the full beam side your rings are further in than mine. Which looks mad cos it lights up the wrinkled edges!. Are they stuck on with JUST double sided tape?

Those will be Gen 1s Afif - if you've got 2s then yours will have a slightly larger diameter and sit closer to the edge of the lamp.
na ive got first gen. Just im only using clips not tape so it sits against the edge [hmm.

Are they stuck on with JUST double sided tape?Hi Afif, thanks for the complements, I have noticed that Teddy likes them as well LOL. I took the pics with a Canon Powershot A80, you can change the shutter speed and aperture to give more flexibility.
I stuck the CCFL with double sided and one clip due to the silver lens deflector protrudes further out on one side so I could only fit one clip, but if I brought the CCFL nearer to the front the I could only fit a clip on the other side. If I positioned the CCFL to use the two clips I found that the CCFL was not tangential to the lens casing. [hmm

I recall that I could not find a way how to position the CCFL securely in front of the silver lens deflector so I went the other way and positioned them so they are just in front where the lens reflector starts coming straight out. Your the first persion to say the look mad ! LOL
So you did only use tape? I dont see no clips in that picture.

Hi Afif, I originally did just use tape but I thought after I put everything back that in the summer the tape might soften so I added one clip on as backup. :o
