Hi all,
newby here.. :) ...
Anyone else from up norf?, Manchester i live....

i am the proud owner of a stock 52' 318vi vert in silver,,,and have a few questions re:mods, pls no one say "just buy a 6 pot" like ive heard before elsewhere! (im loving the fact its group 14 and im getting 35-38mpg)

Just waiting for the Sun to move up north sometime this yr, then i'll get the digi cam on it. heres a pic off my phone....

http://www.geocities.com/munkeybikeonline/zimmer.jpg

Anyway, i'll be de-badging it tonight and have plans for the eibach pro kit and some 18's.......what i really would like to know about is modding the back end for a twin exhaust back box. im not after a full system as i regretted ruining my e36 a few yrs ago with a bad drown......not really interested in more power from a full system (yet lol), as the cars for cruising......

ideally id love to be able to just whack on a 320ci standard back box, so i could keep the rear valance.but i dont think that could be done .. im not too bothered if i do need to change the valance etc....what diameter are the standard twin exhausts? are there any aftermarket one that look very similar??

any pics / ideas or examples of done mods would be great....
c'mon you 318's lets see what you've done!

thanks guys,

Matt

Hi Matt Welcome.

Looks like the Northern guys are growing.:D

Nowt wrong with 318's dude, check out Bigfas's vert;)

On the exhaust theres so many to chose from, but i here supersprint is the most quiet. You may have to change the rear diffuser? I dont know what the 318's look like.

Hi, welcome.

Like Lee said, exhaust choices are infinite but you may want to consider an exhaust that has been tried and tested by others so that you get an honest opinion. If you don't like your exhaust loud and prefer it more for asthetics, just stick to a back box.

The stock 320 exhaust will not fit your 318 because the down pipes are different. You may be able to modify the exhaust from an early 323/328 to fit your 318 (single centre pipe as opposed to twin) but at that expense, you might as well buy an aftermarket unit built specifically for your car.

Eisenmann does custom exhausts at various sound levels and you can also choose the tip design you want. The quietest option is just as quiet as stock. They have been tried and tested by various members on here including myself and it is by far the most popular choice. Furthermore, you can get one through our forum sponsor www.ca-automotive.co.uk at member's price. Check out www.eisenmann.co.uk

Tip size, you will have no problems sticking a pair of 80mm tips behind the rear valance, stock or Sport. However, if you want the tips to look more OEM, try 76mm (stock 330 exhaust tips are 75mm).

Another option is Supersprint, they are also very good but less versatile. Ie. they are mass produced with only a handful of design. You can also get locally made custom exhausts but from my experience, some of the quality is not up to others. Unless you've seen and heard them in person, I would stick to bigger names.

Who called?

Welcome mate. Nowt wrong with 4-pots. Had mine for over two and a half years now and loved every minute. Any time I need a speed fix (which isn't often), I steal one of the crew rides :D

I've got an Eisenmann Race exhaust on mine, twin 76mm pipes custom made for a 318 (single pipe entry from the resonator). I've also have a CAI from SSDD which CA Automotive spent 3 hours custom fitting, but I think it sounds awesome.

I've also got Eibach Prokit springs which are well worth getting perfect drop and no detriment to ride quality. I've got a video clip on the site somewhere, let me dig it out, you can hear what it sounds like

Welcome to the forum mate, lovely looking motor. As has been said, nothing wrong with 4-pots :), we don't have any of that 4-pot nonsense on here, unlike some other forums.

You have made one critical error though, by coming on this forum you WILL have no money left, hahaha.

I'm looking forward to see what you do with your car mate, good luck with it!

Fas - lovin that car. sounds ace. What induction kit is that?

Ive got one of the fastest monkeybikes in the U.K., so am no stranger to spending obscene ammounts on modding vehicles lol.

The bikes finished now so bring on the bm mods!!

Induction kit is from Teddy of SSDD Motorsport, www.ssdd-motorsport.com if you're handy with a spanner and can modify on the fly, then it's well worth doing. Pics / spec of your bike?

Mits, they are actual speed. You really have to see one in action in flesh.

BigFas
03-06-2005, 08:15 PM
Going off topic. Nick, did you really race those at those speeds? I've got a battery operated Tamiya and I struggle to keep that under control around a circuit, you must have wicked reactions to control that! If you've still got a car like that, would love to see it in person

peppernick
03-06-2005, 08:23 PM
Hehehe....yep, everything happens in a split second. I'll take you to Crystal Palace in London one day, these cars accelerate from 0-60MPH in 2.5secs and top out at 75-80MPH. The have mega tuned minature race chassis with foam rubber tyres. The engines are 2 stroke and run on nitro methanol, rev up to 45,000RPM kicking out 3BHP. But on a chassis that weights 2500g.

BigFas
03-06-2005, 08:24 PM
You're on!! Would love to see one of them up close. 2.5 second acceleration! Can we take one to the pod?

peppernick
03-06-2005, 08:27 PM
No probs. Summer is on and there'll be lots of races. Problem is the cars top out after max 350ft-ish or the engines will simply snap, so quarter mile is out of the question.
