Thinking of selling the M3, had it a while now and the miles are starting to pile on, i'm in a quandary....

I really want a 911, been a childhood dream to own one, and now is a better time to get one (I think lol).

Anyone had a 996 C4S?

I don't think I could cope with a GT3 on a daily basis, 160 mile round trip to work would be too much (unfortunately) and they are financially still just out of reach.

How does a C4S compare to a E46 M3 speed / handling / power wise?

I would have thought the Porsche is a better handling car, from what I understand it is much better than a C2.

Resiuduals are good on the C4S which means it might still be worth something in a couple of years when i'd want to change it.

Cheers

consider a C2S, as it will be rear wheel drive, a little faster and cheaper to buy it. the main difference is that the c4s has a wider body. ther are a few other differences. i think the brakes, and suspension.

have you considered buying a work car and keeping the M3? it feels nice to drive the M3 at the end of week :D plus the insurance will drop quite a bit, as the M3 will be your second car. mine dropped from £1900 no mods to £825 with all mods and £62 per track cover. And you get to keep your no claims on your other vehicle. oh, plus you will save shit loads of money on petrol :D

What is interesting is that 996 turbos are not very different in price than C4S's. The C4S is basically identical to the turbo except without the Turbo, if you get my drift. So parts tend to cost the same.

Anyway, I think the 4s is a much better looking car than the 2S hence why they cost more.

Servicing will be much cheaper than the M3 as well.

i had a c4s, i found it a bit bland after the M3, much better on the twisties and MUCH better brakes! though if i was buying one and wanted fun rather than ultimate grip i would go for a c2,
though for not much more £££ you could get a turbo.....now thats a mans car!

try www.kennydunn.co.uk he has 3 just now and is the best in scotland,
i got mine there and am very happy with it :) :)

i dont think a turbo would be a good idea if his commuting to work at a daily basis and doing 160miles per trip lol :D if that is what you meant. which is a shit loads of miles to get to work :p
a turbo would be awesome as you will always think to yourself after "shit! i should of spent a few more grand and got a sick ass stupidly fast car instead" :D
good porsches are hard to find though. especially if your picky about the colour and spec, especially if you have a budget.

From what I read the C2S doesn't feel as good to drive for whatever reason, I need to drive both back to back really and decide from there.

The 4s is meant to have a much more repsonsive and planted front end than the C2 from the research I have done.

I did consider getting a car to hoon to and from work in, if I did that, i'd still want to sell the M, after covering over 55,000 miles in this one (which has been awesome) I feel its time to change.

If I decide against the C4, i'll probably get a hack and either another track bike or a dedicated track car, for me it would be pointless keeping the M3 and something else, whilst I think its a wonderful car, for me I don't think the M is special enough to justify keeping just for weekends (imo of course!), it's just a car....a good one tho!

I did consider a Turbo, but for Turbo money, I could get a GT3, which i'd ultimately love but would be too much for the commute methinks!
