if you have mk3 don't bother, just use one of the older Mode 2 discs (from V22 onwards), because all NavOS update discs from V22 through V31 only include the exact same 3-1/63 version (for the MKIII) anyway.
...and if your MKIII already has 3-1/63(written in the top right in the settings menu), there's nothing more to do, you already have the latest!
For Mk4 however, it makes things more snappier. run more efficiently. the icon and sky has changed also.

Do your discs have the full 7 digit postcode search?

the 7 digit poscode is a misconception. it only goes up to 3 -5 digits. for example E1 8 or EN4 2 or NW12 5
so basically you have one more unit after the main part of the postcode. i could be wrong, but thats what all the ones ive had do. ive even done it on other peoples cars who say they have 7 digits, and they didnt.
now i think about it, i was playing around with the navigation, and im sure i went to an option in the point of interest, and i was able to put in the full postcode. i cant remember 100%, as my girlfriend came and interrupted me and i had to drive off.
il have a play about it with it tonight. and let you know
i dont think you can get postcode for mk3.

Not quite mate.

Thats the OEM postcode search and is 5 digit, (accessed via the city/town option)

There is a 7 digit search, but only on modded map discs and as XKaLiBaR says it's accessed via a modded POI (i have it and it works perfectly) and works in a similar way to the modded POI for speed cameras.

Sounds like you found it mate, thats the one, have a look at this to access it, 7 Digit Guide (http://www.4shared.com/file/40666438/8b3db6c3/7_Digit_Postcode_Input_HIGH.html) (not mine, but i found this on another forum).
i dont think you can get postcode for mk3.
As for postcode search on a MK3 you need the correct map disc for this to work (the navteq 2007/2008, TMC and postcode, but only as OEM 5 digit) as it's a function of the map disc and not the OS. I had one when I had my MK3.
