Hmm, well yes, pic speaks for itself really:
http://www.reflex-hosting.net/stuff/picture015.jpg
Not sure what I can say really, other than that has just happened. Luckily myself and no-one else was injured. The car is almost certainly written off.
I was lucky that I managed to do it practically outside an ambulance station so they were on the scene instantly. The police and fire brigade were on scene quickly as well, or maybe it just felt like it, I dunno.
I know it is of little concern as they will never read this but I would like to thank all the people that stopped to help me, I am truly grateful. About 7 people stopped to make sure I was safe and well and that kind of help cannot be repaid, they had all left by the time I had been checked up by the paramedic so I didn't get a chance to thank any of them but I am very grateful.
As far as I'm aware the back of the car went out, I over corrected (without really thinking about it) and then I hit the kerb pushing me into that position.
Not entirely sure what is going to happen car wise now, but we shall wait and see.
Sorry for the sombre post but you need to know.
I think tommorow it will sink in how lucky I was. I don't know whether it was by design or luck, but the cabin stayed intact very well and the seat belt bore the brunt of my weight brilliantly, which for me is no easy task.
As you can imagine and probably tell from this post, I'm pretty shaken up, sorry if that pic is the wrong size or whatever.
Not sure what else to say really, but, yeah.. :(
I'm certainly gonna be a bit freaked out the next time I get in the drivers seat, but at least I learnt the lesson with only a scratch on my finger (literally).
Shuriken.
ps. Think I better change my sig..

Sorry, I missed Ali's when replying.
It wasn't actually raining, it had just stopped, but I think a combination of greasy road surface, that roundabout and my inexperience did it. Apparently that roundabout is a touch dodgy, the camber or somin, so maybe I just caught it wrong. I wasn't going fast though, I mean, I was compensating for the weather, I had some sense. :) ...obviously not enough!
I think the back end went left a touch as I was going over the roundabout and I over compensated and it swung round to the right, which pointed me in the kerb, which I then hit and bounced up into that angle. I then skidded like that for about 20-25 yards with the road a good foot or so from my face. I didn't really have time to be scared then but f**k me I'm shaking now.
Thanks again for your comments. :)

Glad you're okay Sam. A bit inconvenient that you don't have a car but it is replaceable so don't worry. I've already written off 3 cars and lost plenty of no claim bonus so no biggie man!

Dude, like I said on IM, I'm in shock. Honestly thought it was a joke when I first read it, but following the sentiments that the other guys have shown, so glad you're ok and that you had the sense to buckle up. A car is a piece of metal that can be repaired. You can't. Glad you're safe.

glad ur ok man... that happened to me and my mate in his 205.. back end clipped the kerb as another car was inside off us just moving closer and closer.. just rolled over onto the side.. funny thing is.. we were all ok,, until climbing out the passenger door.. i forgot to hold it open and it slammed on his fingers :):) lolol...
wow that is scary...glad to see your ok.
seeing that kind of thing in pics it doesnt really hit home, but when its someone you know...it gives you the shivers.
once again its only a car and glad to see your ok.

Thank god your safe and well, damn shame about the car, hope everything works out well and it's not too long before your'e back in a new ride bud !
damn.. looks nasty dude.. good to hear all were ok..best of luck with the insurance folks..sometimes they can make it worse than the the incident itself!
man glad your ok. Seriously, someone i know who did the same and but didnt buckle up wasnt quite as lucky. I know how scary just losing the back end is especially when there no traction control. Yea its a rush when you control it but as when you realise its out of control . Like everyone said good luck with the insurance company. My uncle always goes you never really respect the road and driving till you survive an accident. Hopefully itll never come close to that again.

Shit man, that looks way nasty, so glad you're ok. Looking at the car may hurt a little, but much better that the car gets damaged than you. I'm sure I speak for the rest of the guys in saying that anything I can do, however unlikely that is, just say the word. For now, have a good large hot sweet drink and try to get some sleep mate, you'll probably ache in the morning but things will seem a lot clearer then.

That is super scary dude. Glad to hear you and your mate are ok. You were very very lucky dude.... puts a lot of things in perspective huh?
Bro glad to read you are all fine in the body department, shocker about the car but as we all know better to have walked away than not :)

Glad you are ok mate.
I hope everything works out for you
That is really unlucky. The main thing is you are ok. It will always take a while for it to actually sink in. At the end of the day the car is just a material object that can be replaced.

Thanks everyone. :)
I can see a long and fruitful battle with the insurance company coming, but I'll have to wait and see. I'm awaiting a phone call from an assessor today and I should also receive my "enhanced" courtesy car today as well. I wonder what enhanced means, 4 wheels maybe? :p
Thanks again, I'll be back in a bimmer as soon as I can! I don't wanna imagine what the outcome might have been if I wasn't in a bimmer, I think it would have been slightly more unpleasant.
Take care on the roads peeps,
Shuriken.

Never nice news to hear a family member involved in an accident and as you can all imagine this has shaken me up quite a bit as well. I am very relieved that he is ok. We all have accidents, especially with our first cars and i am just relieved that he managed to walk (or rather climb) away from this one.
Car is replaceable and my old car is currently up for sale so we might see if we can sort something out.
In the mean time, i think this is a prime example of:
A/ Why wearing a seatbelt is critical
B/ How BMWs deserve the upmost respect regardless of engine size.

Probably a little irreverent to say it, nevermind think it, but I couldn't help thinking 'damn, it's a good job he wasn't in his bro's new 528 at the time'... [fight ;)

Hey Shuriken
I'd just like to echo all the comments before me. Glad you're OK. It's a bit surreal looking at that picture. Can't imagine what it was like to be inside it at the time!
Hope all goes well with the insurance and we all look forward to seeing the next bimmer :)

Thanks.
Current state of play is that I've got to wait up to 2 weeks for them to decide whether its a write off or not and I'm meant to be getting a courtesy car imminently. I'm getting a category D courtesy car and the normal is A, so I can't wait to see what it turns out to be lol. It might even have four wheels!
I'll be back in a bimmer as soon as can, dunno what it'll be yet, but it'll be a BM. I can only be thankful I was in a BM 'cos I don't think a number of other cars would have protected me so well.
Anyway, onwards and upwards! :p
